Chapter 30: The CEO

Accompanied by the graceful figure of Wu Yue, Yang Chen followed her all the way through the elevator to the top floor of the Yu Lei Building. The entire floor was dedicated to the CEO's office and resting areas. With its fashionable and avant-garde transparent materials and lush potted plants with a hint of freshness, the entire floor was adorned in a refreshing and elegant manner, spacious and brightly lit. The subtle details everywhere highlighted the noble status of the CEO within the family's large enterprise.

"Secretary Wu, what does the CEO want from me?" Yang Chen curiously asked as he trailed behind her.

Wu Yue didn't answer and continued to walk in silence, the rhythmic sound of her high heels tapping the floor.

Helpless, Yang Chen thought to himself that this woman was probably frigid and decided not to ask any further questions. However, he regretted not checking the information of the CEO of Yu Lei International yesterday. He shouldn't have just relied on the recruitment materials. If he had known in advance, he wouldn't feel so clueless and helpless when facing his immediate superior who suddenly wanted to see him.

"We're here." They arrived at a grand, intricately carved, creamy white door. Wu Yue stared coldly at Yang Chen and said, "The CEO is inside. Go in by yourself and mind your tone. It's best to show some respect!"

Despite Wu Yue's inexplicably stern tone, Yang Chen didn't get angry. On the contrary, he felt even more pity for this woman. She couldn't possibly be frigid. Why would she dislike men so much? He was oozing with masculinity, didn't the other female employees like him so much?

Ignoring the pitiful secretary, Yang Chen naturally pushed open the door and entered the power core of the Yu Lei Building.

As soon as he entered, Yang Chen caught a whiff of a familiar scent. The air was filled with a subtle jasmine fragrance, gentle and refreshing, reminding him of his own wife, Lin Ruoxi. Wasn't that the same fragrance she wore with her aloof demeanor?

The CEO's office was surprisingly spacious, occupying over a hundred square meters. It had a semi-circular shape, with smooth and solid floor-to-ceiling windows lining the entire curved perimeter. From any corner, one could enjoy the bustling scenery of the city center. Thin white curtains fluttered in the cool breeze of the central air conditioning.

The floor was adorned with a plush Mediterranean wool carpet, featuring intricate and vintage patterns. Several lush green potted plants were strategically placed around the office, complementing the overall lighting.

The crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling was also a rare collectible. Its delicate craftsmanship reflected a splendid glow, adding a touch of elegance and mystery to the entire room.

Several silver metallic bookshelves were filled with various albums. Adjacent to the bookshelves was a massive mahogany desk. However, behind the desk, where the CEO's chair was supposed to be, there was no one.

Yang Chen was wondering why the CEO had summoned him but was nowhere to be seen when he noticed a small door leading to a resting area slowly opening. A graceful figure emerged from it.

In that instant, the atmosphere in the office became incredibly eerie, as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of the air. Both individuals seemed to forget how to breathe.

Their gazes met, and the mixed emotions within them were indescribable. Even the parties involved found it difficult to articulate because it was simply too surreal!

"Uh... you... I... um... I..." Yang Chen had always believed that he had a good tolerance for psychological pressure. But now he realized that it was limited to certain specific situations. In unexpected encounters like this, Yang Chen's mind became a mess, and he couldn't think of what to say.

The woman before him wore crystal high-heeled shoes, revealing slender and delicate legs. Black lace embraced her fair skin, exuding a subtle and captivating allure. She wore a modest beige professional suit on her upper body, accentuating her perfectly proportioned, sculpted figure that embodied the golden ratio. Her perky and alluring buttocks intensified under the tight waistline. Her ink-black long hair was neatly tied up, accentuating her elegant snow-white swan-like neck. And to make matters even more irresistible, heaven had blessed her with a stunningly beautiful face that no one could resist...

"What's wrong with you?" Lin Ruoxi looked at the insolent man before her, who seemed to be at a loss for words, with an expression as if he had just eaten a cockroach. The complex and tense emotions from earlier dissipated, replaced by a teasing and playful tone. "Aren't you always good at talking and pretending? How come you can't even string a sentence together now?"

Yang Chen opened his mouth for quite some time but failed to utter a complete sentence. In the end, he angrily walked over to the water dispenser in the corner of the office, grabbed a paper cup, filled it with a large gulp of water, and gulped it down with a "gulp gulp" sound. Wiping his mouth, he finally regained some composure. He turned around, facing Lin Ruoxi again, who had now assumed the authoritative demeanor of the helm of Yulei International. She sat calmly in the slightly oversized CEO chair, her expression calm and indifferent. She appeared like an untouchable goddess statue, solemn and immaculate.

"Life is like a drama, and drama is like life," Yang Chen silently observed the woman in front of him for a long time before he couldn't help but laugh. "My obedient little wife Ruoxi, if you were the CEO of Yulei, you should have told me earlier. Then I wouldn't have to go through the trouble of finding a job and be assigned as a security guard while still working in an office."

"Mr. Yang Chen, mind your address. In the company, I am your immediate superior," Lin Ruoxi's beautiful eyes flashed with a hint of coldness. This man was just obedient a moment ago, but now he's starting to become flirtatious again.

Yang Chen smirked, "I'm your superior in the company, does that mean I can call you by your name outside of it?"

"No!" Lin Ruoxi quickly vetoed. She couldn't stand the disgusting titles he came up with. Frowning, she said, "You can call me by my name, but don't include those disgusting things."

Ignoring her, Yang Chen's mood had also calmed down at this point. The excitement from earlier had diminished to almost nothing. He casually pulled a chair over and sat down across from Lin Ruoxi's desk, crossing his legs and sighing. "Alright, let's not talk about those things. Why did President Lin summon me?"

Only then did Lin Ruoxi remember the reason she called him up. After giving Yang Chen a disdainful glance, she rotated the computer screen on the desk 180 degrees and pointed to his application documents. "According to your resume, you graduated from Harvard University with a master's degree in marketing management, and you were a full scholarship recipient.

Yang Chen glanced at his own information and roughly understood what Lin Ruoxi wanted to ask. He could only nod and say, "That's correct. What's the matter?"

"Master's degree from Harvard University, Lin Ruoxi looked at Yang Chen as if she were seeing him for the first time, sizing him up. She asked, "Weren't you selling lamb skewers in the western district? How do you have such an educational background?"

Yang Chen, who had prepared his explanation in advance, recited it like a memorized script. "When I was young, I got separated from my family and was sold to the United States. I was adopted by kind-hearted people and grew up there, attending university and learning French. But I'm not an ambitious person. After my foster parents passed away, Istarted selling lamb skewers to make a living. You can ask the vendors in the western district. They all know

Lin Ruoxi, as the leader of Yulei International, wouldn't be a fool and easily believe Yang Chen's words. A touch of displeasure appeared on her pretty face, and she coldly snorted, "Then how do you explain getting a perfect score on the German and Italian language proficiency tests?"
