One could begin with the dust, the heat, and the purple bougainvillea. One will begin with the rotten mangoes and flies humming and green-bellied lizards bobbing their orange heads while loitering in the sun. But I didn't notice all that, instead, I walked silently, oblivious to my surroundings. With a smile on my face, I remembered vividly our last days at secondary school, time flies, luckily I still have IB with me to keep me company. We both came to my village together. After what happened between her and her stepfather, she has not forgiven her mother for not believing her. Of course, I was lucky that we were both admitted to the same school despite the different departments, we had promised to live together. My only regret was that Jimi had traveled abroad. He traveled immediately after our last day at secondary school, not before promising to always come back for me.
I thought we were young and couldn't promise each other a long-term commitment but surprisingly Jimi did, he promised that I would be his first and last girlfriend "I will surely come for you so please wait for no matter how long I want to spend my life with you as my girl, my woman, and wife, come what may I will always find a way for us". I still remember the kiss, it was filled with desire and passion. It was so much that I wanted him to do something to me right there in his room but Jimi will not do a shit he told me to wait until the right time.
I walk smiling into my grandfather's compound. That old man, can't stay a day without drinking ogogoro. As usual, I meet him sitting peacefully in the courtyard under a big mango tree, enjoying the cool evening. He had only his old wrapper on his waist, his long chewing stick which he held in his left hand, and a botter of locally made dry gin which is also known as ogogoro on the locally made stool right beside him.
Grandpa loves to joke that he can still make babies at his age, he loves to talk about skills he used to woo his late wife and how he almost went broke because of her. He always bost of trading on timber with the white men.
"Go to the kitchen and a seat, " Grandpa said immediately when he saw me walking closer to him. I immediately rush to get a seat in the kitchen. I sat in front of him, knowing he was about to talk to me.
"omomi , you see that school you are going to. he pause and clear his throat while he took another shot of ogogoro before he continued "you must be extremely carefu l cause they are lot of randy young men out there whom aim is to frustrate young ladies like you. So please you people should be careful.
