Reaching the Underwater Portal

With General Lin Zhen Guo's command, the entire base became fully operational. The roofs above each Jaeger slowly opened to the sides, and then eight specialised transport aircraft lifted the massive Jaegers from their maintenance bays using special cables.

The Jaegers, each weighing over a thousand tons, were slowly hoisted into the air and transported towards the location of the underwater portal created by the aliens.

This was the first time multiple Jaegers were being transported together. Previously, at most, two Jaegers were transported simultaneously. This time, five Jaegers were transported together, including two of the latest fifth-generation Jaegers. Without the combined efforts of all the bases, there wouldn't have been enough transport aircraft to carry all the Jaegers.

"Everyone, stay alert. The crucial moment is coming. Report any unexpected situations immediately," General Lin Zhen Guo sternly instructed, his eyes fixed on the images on the large screen before him. Things had gone smoothly so far, and while he felt relieved, he reminded everyone to remain vigilant.

Everyone in the command center understood the mission's importance and stayed on high alert, ready to report any anomalies. The Jaegers' transportation went smoothly without any incidents, much to everyone's relief. This successful phase indicated that the mission was progressing well.

...

The Jaegers were transported to a location near the underwater portal and then released from a low altitude, dropping into the sea like giant dumplings. The colossal machines hit the water with loud splashes, sending massive waves rippling outward.

All five Jaegers were successfully deployed, standing steadily in the water with only their lower halves submerged in the relatively shallow area, with water reaching up to their waists.

"Report, all Jaegers have been successfully deployed!" The news brought another wave of relief to the tense command centre, marking another successful mission phase.

"Everyone, close all hatches. We're going down," Li Yue instructed after confirming that there were no issues with controlling his Jaeger. The other pilots, already briefed to follow Li Yue's lead, promptly sealed their Jaegers' hatches to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage.

Without further delay, Li Yue mentally commanded his Jaeger to move forward into deeper waters, with the other four Jaegers following closely. Within a few steps, the nearly 100-meter-tall Jaegers were fully submerged, continuing their march toward the portal's location.

...

Movement was slower underwater than on land due to water resistance and the uneven seafloor. After nearly ten minutes, they finally reached the ocean depths where the portal was located.

They could see a massive pit a hundred meters ahead, glowing with an orange light resembling flames. "General Lin, we've arrived. Should we proceed with the operation?" Li Yue returned upon reaching the pit's edge and awaited further instructions.

"Proceed as planned," General Lin Zhen Guo ordered after a moment of relief, sensing the mission's successful outcome within reach.

"Li Yue, let us deploy the nuclear warhead first," suggested the son from the father-son duo piloting one of the fifth-generation Jaegers, proposing to test the portal with their warhead first.

However, Li Yue declined. "Wait, I have a feeling this portal won't let the warhead pass through easily." He then directed the pilots of Gipsy Danger, piloted by the film's protagonists, Raleigh and Mako, to fetch a large rock.

Though puzzled, Raleigh and Mako complied, bringing a nearly hundred-ton rock. "Throw it in," Li Yue instructed, leaving everyone in suspense about his intentions.

As the rock fell into the pit, it initially descended without issue. But as it neared the orange portal, silver lightning from the portal enveloped the rock, shattering it into countless pieces. The relentless lightning pulverised the rock fragments until they were reduced to dust.

"What the hell just happened?" The unexpected phenomenon left everyone, including the Jaeger pilots and the command centre staff, utterly stunned.

"Don't just stand there. Find out why this happened!" General Lin Zhen Guo quickly regained his composure, understanding that an unexpected complication had arisen. He urgently ordered the command centre personnel to investigate the cause.
