Chapter 59: Luna’s Explanation

Luna's explanation went like this. A little after I went away, there were more appearances of demonic beasts. At first, it was the occasional goblin, which caused the commoners to worry a little bit. Then, orcs and oranges. These demonic beasts caused more people to worry. Maybe a week into the random appearances. Wyverns and sometimes even dragon newborns would appear.

The behavior of demonic beasts got many people to be vigilant and report various things to many officals. No shady person was left unchecked. Recently, the monster to appeared that caused a huge uproar was the SS-ranked beast, Yali. Scary, deadly, and a formidable beast. I thought this demonic beast war was on a small scale.

I was utterly mistaken. My assumptions were shattered. I had naively believed this would be a mere stroll in the park. If our only adversaries were goblin riders, then surely, rallying the town's support would be a breeze. But now, with the involvement of SS-ranked demonic beasts, my confidence wavers. Fear has crept into my heart, a chilling reminder of the true scale of this demonic beast war.

There is a big difference between those two threat levels. We, as in humanity, have a secret weapon. The Rebellious World is a powerful tool. Especially cars that allow me to absorb stats. Or cards that protect me and provide new skills.

Even without those cards, the creatures of the Rebellious World are really powerful. I shouldn't rely on that power alone. My Type 56 firearm, the Dimension Destroyer, is very powerful. It has the power to kill, from what I remember, A-ranked beasts by itself. Or was it C ranked? Regardless, that weapon is powerful. It even has more power than it has yet to show me.

Luna's silence about my family situation was deafening. I couldn't help but wonder what Mariella had managed to uncover. Perhaps Luna held the key to this mystery. She was my... confidante? No, that didn't feel right. She was more than that. She was the girl I loved, and it felt strange to refer to her as just a girlfriend.

"So, Luna, what is my family up to?" I asked Luna.

"That is a little complicated. Where to start?" Luna sat down on the ground to think hard about what to say.

"For starters, your father is being thrown under the bus. People are blaming him for the weird patches of demonic beast appearances. Not that I agree, because I don't, but they are blaming the first appearance being the random thing summoned near his estate. Meaning he is somehow the cause of the recent appearances." Luna said, not looking at me, still lost in thought.

"Lafker was the only one willing to talk. Ferin was an asshole. Thanks to Lafker, I know their situation and the rest of your family's situation. Your sisters are all fine. Your Merchant sister is raking in money, actually, so she is doing really well. She never gave me her name, so I can't recall it. Ziba is doing well." Luna went on.

"Now for Lafker. He is moving money around. He is putting money into defense and security for something. I guess that he is just boosting the economy in time of need. So, yeah, that is what's up with your family." Luna finished her explanation by looking me in the eyes.
