Chapter 4: Memories

Blood started oozing out of the strands of her hair as she lay on the road, unconscious but breathing heavily. I immediately rush to her, take her in my arms, and try to wake her up by tapping her cheeks.

Soon I pick her up in bridal style and put her in the car that hit her. Realizing that the driver was drunk, I moved him aside and rushed to the hospital.

Sol's Pov

I could hear screams echoing while the smell of blood filled the air. I could hear the voices of teachers telling students to hurry. I started to panic when suddenly someone held my hand.

??: It's okay... I am here with you; nothing will happen.

I have heard his voice before. I looked up to see his face. Tanjiro…

I woke up with a start and started panicking while breathing heavily. Tanjiro rushed in and held me tight while slowly stroking my hair.

Tanjiro: It's okay; I'm here.

I slowly started to calm down. But then I break from the hug.

Sol: Is this the first time we are meeting?

He got confused by my sudden question.

Tanjiro: What do you mean? We have been meeting every day since college.

It took me no time to realize that he doesn't remember. Just like how I didn't remember. My eyes started to water. Tanjiro tried to comfort me.

Tanjiro: Please tell me what's wrong. Is it hurting somewhere? Did I do something wrong?

Sol (stutters between her tears): You don't remember. You can go home now. It's getting late. Thank you for staying here with me.

Tanjiro just nodded, still confused, and was about to leave when I grabbed his wrist. He turns to me, and I hand him a box.

Tanjiro (confused): What is this?

Sol: *sigh* For years, I too have wondered what it was. I think I've finally found the answer.
