Chapter 5: A Tragedy

A/n's pov

Tanjiro takes the box home. That night, he lies on the bed, takes the box in his hand, and opens it only to find a school ID card from Lightwood High School. It belonged to him when he was 17. He starts talking to himself, wondering how the card ended up with Sol when he had no memory of studying at such a school.

He gets curious and decides to investigate. He searches for the school on Google and finds the location. He goes there in person the next day, only to find out that the school is closed.

Tanjiro (in mind): That's weird. Schools are supposed to be open at this time.

Now he is more confused. He sees another school nearby and asks about the details of Lightwood High to the security guard there.

Tanjiro: "Excuse me, sir, could you please tell me why this school is closed? Schools are supposed to be open at this time, right?".

Security: You don't live here, right? Thought so. That school has been closed for, um, 3 years now.

Tanjiro: 3 years? But why?

Security: Because of the "elite competition tragedy," of course.

Tanjiro: Tragedy?

Security: Yeah, the last Elite completion was held three years ago. But it didn't go well.

Tanjiro: What happened?

Security: Five students and two teachers were murdered.

Tanjiro: What do you mean by murdered?

Security: I don't know exactly what happened. Umm, how about you come here tomorrow? Maybe then I could help you.

Tanjiro: This is an emergency. I can wait here if you'd like.

Security: You will have to wait for more than 5 hours. It won't be easy. I suggest you go home and come tomorrow, or if it is an emergency, come back at around 10 p.m.

Tanjiro: I'll come back at 10.

With that said, they both parted ways.

(Time skips to 10 p.m.)

It was a dark and stormy night. It was raining cats and dogs. Tanjiro was all alone. Not a single soul in sight. He slowly approached the school.

Tanjiro: Excuse me, um, is anyone there?

Security: Yes, yes. I am right here. Here, take this. You will find all you need here.

The security guard hands him a newspaper.

Tanjiro: Thank you!

Tanjiro moves aside and starts reading the newspaper. Just like the security said, five students and two teachers were murdered. But wait… This girl… How can this be? Sol is dead! But how? He just met her at the hospital a few days ago. Does she have a twin sister? Or is it her?

Millions of questions started running through his head. A loud strike of lightning brought him back to reality. He realized that it was getting late, so he thanked the security guard and left for home. That night, he was driving in his car when suddenly he hit something.

He tries to reverse, but the car won't move. Suddenly, the lightning strikes, and he sees someone in front of his car.
