The battle came to a halt with Emily's interference. Both groups turned their attention to her, as they could sense the interest their respective elders had in the human girl. They also understood the significance of human abilities to vampires, and no one dared to attack her recklessly. Moreover, her stunning beauty made it difficult for them to lay a hand on her.
Emily realized that she had become the center of attention and stopped, standing in the middle unsure of what to do.
Boris glanced at Yulun, seemingly understanding his thoughts. In an instant, he moved to Emily's side, wrapped his arm around her waist, and took her outside the battle circle, far away from Yulun.
"Do you think you can take her away from me?" Boris's voice was icy as he spoke, his slender fingers resting on Emily's abdomen, showing no intention of moving away.
A hint of hatred flickered in Yulun's eyes, but he quickly smiled and looked at the sky. "It's getting bright. Goodbye for now!" With that, he disappeared with his large group of followers.
A faint glow appeared on the horizon, and Boris's eyes showed signs of urgency. He released Emily and gave a decisive order, "Retreat!" Before leaving, he glanced back at Emily, his expression devoid of emotion. "Come to the castle tomorrow night!"
Emily was taken aback as Boris walked away. Benjamin wanted to bid her farewell, but she scoffed and averted her gaze. With a sigh, Benjamin followed suit and left.
Emily ran away quickly, feeling a sense of emptiness after the previously lively scene. She looked at the devastated area caused by the battle. Although it was in the suburbs and there were public facilities like road signs, they had been completely destroyed. Emily wondered what would happen if someone discovered the scene in daylight. She swiftly made her escape.
After running for a while, Emily caught a whiff of that scent again—the same scent she had smelled in front of the block building. She quietly returned and indeed saw the silhouette of that woman standing in the recently battled area, seemingly helpless.
Emily was about to walk over and see who it was when she noticed the area being enveloped in a soft orange light. While the light was gentle, it felt somewhat dazzling to Emily. She closed her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them, the place was completely restored. The woman appeared a bit unsteady, as if it had taken a great deal of effort to repair the extensive damage.
Emily approached her, taking a step forward, but her phone suddenly rang abruptly. The screen displayed Olivia's name.
She answered the call, and Olivia's lazy voice asked, "Where are you? You disappeared as soon as dawn broke!"
"Um... I..." Emily didn't know how to respond and quickly changed the topic. "You're up so early? What happened?"
Olivia's voice was soft, "I went to the bathroom and noticed your bed was empty. Don't tell me..." Olivia's voice suddenly rose, "You didn't go out for some mischief, did you?"
Emily felt a few vertical lines forming on the back of her head and shouted loudly, "No!"
"Don't be too tired, it's Professor Wu's class today. If you can't get up, you're done for!"
Olivia hung up before Emily could defend herself. Looking back at the spot, the mysterious woman was already gone. Damn it! Was it just a coincidence? She couldn't catch her again!
Thinking about what Olivia mentioned about Professor Wu's class, Emily slapped her forehead and hurriedly ran back. She could catch a quick nap if she made it back in time. Miss Wu was the head of the Chinese Department, well-known throughout the school and nicknamed the "Chinese Witch." Her lectures weren't that great, but her disciplinary measures were at a professorial level. If she caught you doing something wrong, you wouldn't have to attend the remaining classes of the semester because no matter how well you performed afterward, she wouldn't let you pass. You'd have to wait obediently and retake the course next semester.
Emily ran back to the school, but the dormitory door was locked. Seeing that there was no one around, she imitated Benjamin's actions and used the outdoor air conditioning unit to jump from one level to another. When she left last night, she saw that everyone was asleep, so she climbed out the window and onto the rooftop. As a result, the window was not locked.
She crawled to the window and looked inside. Everyone was still asleep. Carefully, she opened the window, crawled in, and laid on the bed. It didn't take long before she fell asleep. This night had been exhausting.
At 7 o'clock in the morning, Emily was dragged out of bed by Charlotte. In a daze, she saw Ava pulling Olivia, and both of them had heavy dark circles under their eyes. It was only after groggily getting up and seeing their tired faces that Emily began to feel a bit more awake. However, their meticulous makeup couldn't conceal their fatigue.
"What were you two up to last night?" Charlotte asked while eating breakfast, a hint of displeasure on her face. "You never invite me!"
Emily glanced at the equally exhausted Olivia, feeling puzzled. Wasn't she the one who went to bed early yesterday? Emily herself was tired because she had participated in a battle, but would Olivia also feel tired from sleeping? She recalled the image of the mysterious woman, seeming exhausted after repairing the wreckage. Could it really be her?
Emily carefully sniffed the air, but it still carried Olivia's usual perfume scent. During the daytime, her sense of smell wasn't as sharp as it was at night. It seemed like her abilities weakened a lot, especially under the sun. However, it wasn't to the extent that she couldn't smell anything at all. Olivia didn't have the distinct scent of that mysterious woman, even though their scents were remarkably similar.
"Did you go out last night?" Emily asked cautiously.
Olivia looked confused. "Go out? Why would I go out? Ruin my complexion?"
She considered her skin more important than anything else. So, in university, where most people stayed up late, Olivia would never sacrifice her sleep. Every night, she would go to bed promptly at 10 o'clock, avoiding anything that could harm her skin. Even when using a computer, she applied a thick layer of sunscreen and strictly controlled her screen time.
Emily nodded thoughtfully. "Then why are you so tired?"
Olivia made a resentful expression and said, "Don't mention it! We watched a horror movie together last night! I had nightmares all night long!" Then she lowered her voice mysteriously and said, "Have you heard of sleep paralysis? I felt like I had that last night!"
The group shivered together and decided not to continue the topic. All four of them were easily frightened and never watched horror movies. It was Emily's suggestion yesterday, and it took a lot of convincing to get the other three to agree. However, after watching the horror movie, they all had nightmares.
Emily herself had been startled awake in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep due to her newfound abilities, which excited her. That's why she ended up going to the rooftop.
Furthermore, Emily noticed that she felt particularly energized at night but drowsy during the day. It had always been like this before, but now that she had encountered vampires, she felt a vague connection to them. That's why their abilities were so similar, and they also disliked the daytime and sunlight.
"I never want to watch a horror movie again in my life!" Charlotte pouted.
"Emily, when I woke up to go to the bathroom at night, I didn't see you. Where did you go?" Olivia suddenly asked Emily.
Emily was drinking porridge and almost choked. Her eyes darted around uncomfortably as she smiled and said, "Ah, that, hehe. I had a nightmare and couldn't sleep, so I went to the balcony with my phone to watch a big film to relax! Hehe~"
The three of them burst into laughter. A "big film" that could alleviate nightmares? Was there such a thing?
In the last minute of the class, Emily and Olivia rushed into the classroom. Miss Wu glanced at the clock, gave them a stern look, but didn't say anything. The two hurried to their seats in the corner, heaving a sigh of relief. That was close.
As soon as they sat down, William followed them like a shadow. Emily sat on the inside, Olivia on the outside, so he had no choice but to sit next to Olivia, causing her face to flush. Her fatigue seemed to vanish, and she became excited, as if injected with adrenaline.
"Emily, what have you been busy with these days?" William spoke to Emily across Olivia, ignoring her embarrassment.
Emily glanced at Olivia and sensed her discomfort. She pressed her finger against her lips and made a "shh" gesture, pretending to focus on the blackboard while ss continued his lecture, spitting saliva as he spoke.
William felt rejected and smiled awkwardly. He lowered his voice and asked Olivia, "How about some street racing tonight?"
Olivia was about to excitedly agree but then remembered Emily's accident. She looked conflicted and ultimately shook her head.
"Forget it!" Emily quickly interjected.
Boris had invited her to the castle, and the night would be long. She didn't need to rush things. Benjamin would come to pick her up following the scent later. They could have a few races first. Last time, due to the accident, she didn't collect the winnings from the bet. On top of that, she had undergone a comprehensive check-up at the hospital, including a CT scan, which cost her a considerable amount of money. Her pockets were already empty.
William had a triumphant smile on his face. He knew that as soon as he mentioned street racing, Emily would take the bait.
Olivia, on the other hand, looked worried. "No! If...you..."
Emily and William looked at her in surprise, as in the past, Olivia would have been the first to eagerly agree. Going street racing would mean more opportunities for her to spend time with William. But today, she seemed hesitant and couldn't articulate her thoughts.
Olivia glanced at the two of them and ultimately decided not to say anything. "Go ahead, but don't drive too fast. Your life is important!"
William breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, while Emily felt that there might be more to Olivia's unspoken words than just the previous accident. Her eyes held a complex expression.
The group agreed to have dinner together. By the time they left the restaurant, it was already dark outside. As they stepped out, a fragrance of osmanthus flowers wafted through the air, delicately refreshing. However, Emily's face turned gloomy. Following the scent of the flowers, she saw Benjamin standing not far away, looking at her with a joyful expression.
Emily glared at him, pretending not to see him, and was about to get into Olivia's sports car when Benjamin swiftly walked over and grabbed her arm. "Stop fooling around. Father is waiting for you."
"Father?" Emily repeated in confusion, then remembered Boris. "It can't be..."
Benjamin nodded.
"Let him wait. I have plans here!" Emily turned her head proudly, shrugged off his grip, and sat in Olivia's car.
Olivia glanced at Benjamin through the window, her expression complex. She didn't say anything and quickly started the car.
William observed Benjamin from afar, his hackles raised. He sighed with relief when he saw Emily abandon him and get into the car.
On the outer ring road, there was another line of sports cars. Betting began, and the stack of money under Emily's name made her eyes sparkle. Just as she was about to head towards William's car, she heard a commotion behind her, and the scent of blood roses filled the air.
Emily turned around and saw Boris smiling at her. The reason for the commotion was the thick stack of money with Emily's name on it, estimated to be worth more than a hundred thousand.
"That money! It's mine!" Emily confidently challenged Boris before turning to get into William's car.
"If you can't get it, then come with me!" Boris smiled confidently.
William stared at Boris, his anger building up. Boris was much more handsome than Benjamin, and he also displayed such extravagance. Would Emily fall for it? No, she wouldn't. William reassured himself internally, but he still felt uncertain. He looked into Boris's eyes, as if fire was about to burst out, but Boris didn't pay him any attention. His gaze remained fixed on Emily's figure.
Olivia also glared at Boris, her eyes filled with hostility.
The car zoomed out like a rocket. When Olivia returned with the flag, she realized that Boris had disappeared.
Emily was in a great mood, and as the car was about to reach a speed of 200 mph, she started humming a song. Just as she reached the second line, she heard a loud crash from the car's roof, and the car trembled. Emily almost lost control of the steering wheel...
