CHAPTER XIV- LIFE ON THE LINE

Even in the face of curtain death, a single thought can turn the tides of an unfair battle.

....

Ethan tried to relax his tense muscles a bit as his entire being was flowing with adrenaline.

He stared at the door that showed that it had nearly reached it's endurance as the cracks grew larger. The door knob showed signs of popping out of it's socket as the ever so loud pounding on the door grew stronger by the second.

The growls and groans of these creatures rang out continuously. The sound of eager zombies at his door added to his tension.

Soon the door knob could no longer contain it's position as it then broke off as it came rolling towards Ethan. In replacement of the door knob's position was the clear yet limited view of zombies with bloody clothes and rotten skin.

Some zombies couldn't walk due to the weak bones they had as they were easily broken amongst rampaging zombie crowd.

Some of the crawling zombies who could see with at least one eye pushed each other aggressively as they wanted to take a peek at where the door knob use to be.

Ethan could see some zombie eyes and bloodied teeth as some tried biting and chomping their way through the hole to no avail, some even lost a couple of their miscoloured teeth trying.

Ethan knew it was almost time to fight for his survival.

At the moment, he had a sheild in his left hand with a 1 and a half meter long sword, more like katana.

The most eye catching and unique thing was how his manifested weopons appeared.

They were bronze and emitted a few dim glows. They were transparent yet not too transparent that the hand could go through.

There were occasionally some lines with an off-white sheen going through the katana (sword) from the handle of it to sharp edge.

They were weird thin lines of different patterns as some deferred from the other. in terms of height.

He manifest these weopons with some difficulty. first, he had to infuse both of his gloves with mana, which was a very demanding task with the reason being his left mana infected hand. It built quite a burning sensation in his left hand as it was a battle between pure mana and infected mana. These two energies clashed against each other constantly, not to mention the fact that doing so was quite painful to Ethan.

It was like applying alcohol to a wound to kill some of the germs on them to avoid chances of any type of infection affecting them.

On top of that, now that Ethan had manifested a shield onto his left hand, which is also affect by the zombie bite, he had to infuse extra mana into his left hand to keep the infection from spreading and repelling the unaffected mana that flowed through his left hand, then onto the left gauntlet.

With eyes as keen and sharp like that of a tiger, he had his undying gaze dead set onto the crumbling door, counting down from ten until one as if he had anticipated what will happen already.

"5"

Ethan muttered as he had already reached five after he began the count down until the zombies broke down that door .

"4"

He then muttered again, anticipating the entry and the moment the swarm of zombies would knock down the already weakened door.

"3"

At this time he had the gaze of a fierce predator as he stared at the door that now seemed like a door to his unforseen path of life or death. At this point, whatever that would happen would be inevitable depending how anyone would logically look at Ethan's situation.

And taking a look at this sad situation poor Ethan was in, the logical conclusion would be his already decided death.

"2"

Ethan said with his now focused fearless eyes as his gaze was still on the now completely unrepairable door as the only blow that the door could withstand had already been given.

Now all that was needed was one last hit by other zombies simultaneously to destroy the severely damaged door into countless pieces before swarming in on him with no mercy.

"1"

And as he muttered that last number to complete his countdown, almost immediately, the door broke into countless shards and chunks of wood, flying out in all directions inside the room of the supposed prey if the zombies.

To couple with his situation, Ethan's room wasn't big to begin with. He had one of the dorms that have been specifically made for one person.

As soon as the door was totally broken into countless pieces, Ethan proceeded with the plan he had already prepared in his predicament.

His plan was both suicidal and advantageous and that is if somehow his situation got twisted a bit in his favour, he could have a chance to overcome his battle,

yet if he happened to find the situation getting complicated and completely out of his favour due to this plan , he would be seeing his grandparents really soon in the blissful embrace of the afterlife.

He lashes out almost immediately as the door broke down at the swarm of zombies, catching then completely unaware.

SWOOSH!!!!!

Ethan dashed hurriedly as he swang his katana (sword) at the first zombie in his sight, he aimed towards the neck of the zombie, and to his surprise, it's head came off pretty easily.

It fell off and rolled a couple of time on the ground, dying it with red blood as the blood gushed out like a raging river, the look on its face was still evident. It's mouth still open , eyes undead than ever now that it was really dead. There were blood and green coloured drools coming out of it's mouth. Probably made out of it's infected salivary gland.

The first victim of Ethan's attack was dead as it's body fell lifeless onto the ground.

"One down, countless more to go"

Ethan thought to himself.
