20 Random Act of Kindness

He picked his things and headed to his office. When he settled down, he gave the General Manager, Mr. Oliver Eliot, a call. Then, he picked his call at once and responded.

“Hello, Mr. Israel. I am glad to hear from you.”

“Good morning, Mr. Eliot. I would like us to meet in my office in the next one hour. Are you cool with it?”

“Okay Mr. Israel. I will be available.”

“That is good. I will be expecting you.”

Afterward, he looked at the time and mumbled.

“Ambassador Grayson should be in Toronto by now.”

Now, Ahmed, his orderly and the Lieutenant had gone to the headquarters underground to nose around. The Lieutenant, who was familiar with some Security Guards, mingled with them.

One of the problems in the Headquarters’ Security System was that the founders, Mr. George Morris and Mr. Edward Murray, hired an independent security outfit to train and recruit their security guards. For that, their royalty and allegiance were mostly to the recruiters. It was unlike the Ancestral Manor Security System, where the Head of the Security was employed by Mr. Morris and, Afterward, he trained and recruited his men. It was the same system that he adopted in the Nigeria Branch after he established it. When Mr. Ahmed Nura survived the attack in the Nigeria Army, which landed him at the Cherry Fields Clinic, he refused to return to the Army and dedicated his career to the company that saved his life. He trained and recruited worthy and trusted security guards, especially those who left the Nigerian Army because of him, and one of them was his orderly.

“Good morning, boss.”

The Soldiers and Security Guards greeted Ralf when he walked in, ignoring the insignificant looking Mr. Nura and his orderly, who chose to remain ignored too.

“Good morning. How is work?”

“Work is fine, boss.”

Now, he assembled the soldiers to have a meeting with them. When they were seated, he began by asking.

“Where are Theo and the others?”

“They are not here.”

One of the guards responded.

“Why are they not here?”

Theo, was one of the security guards who the Head of the Works Department used for his attack, and they were still locked up in the company cell. Now, Mr. Nura and his orderly, who seemed less concerned with the meeting, studied the reactions of the security guards. To their surprise, they were not excited with the question. Then one of them responded.

“He must have gone out with the Head of the Works Department.”

Likewise, Mr. Nura chuckled when he discovered that they were not aware of the news on the air about the organization. That was because there was no television set in the underground, neither were they internet savvy. Then, the Lieutenant continued.

“I see. That his good. Is that his duty post?”

Now, another guard, who was more saddened by the attachment of the Works Manager to Theo than the rest, spoke

“No, boss. I don't understand why the Head of the Works chose only him. We have a roaster which we rotate the workers, but he defiled it and chose only Theo and a few others.”

“It is all right.”

At the International Vice Chairman's Office

After an hour, Mr. Oliver Eliot arrived. He had not been happy with the events of the past two days. Nevertheless, he witnessed the corporate feud between the founders, which led to their deaths and the death of their loved ones, and he still felt nostalgic for it.

“Good to see you, Mr. Israel.”

“I am delighted to see you, too, Mr. Eliot. How is your son?”

Now, Mr. Eliot smiled with glee. The joy that his foster son, Jordan Kadiri, who the International Vice Chairman allowed him to adopt three years ago gave to him was unimaginable.

“He is doing great. The Table Tennis Academy where he schools is proud of him.”

“Wow! I am pleased to hear that. I know you will not let me down.”

“Thank you for believing in me.”

“You are welcome. I called you because you are the oldest serving staff in this organization who witnessed the feud between the founders.”

Now, he paused and looked at him. Then, discovered that his mood suddenly changed, and he continued.

“I know you would not want a repeat of what happened in the past.”

“You are right, Mr. Israel. I had not had peace of mind since the ugly incident. Mr. Donald Priestley was nice until he had much money at his disposal. He felt that he was beyond probe because you entrusted such a humongous project into his care.”

“I see. What about the attack on our Chairmen, what do you think about it?”

“That is what excess money could do. He could not withstand the shame of resignation and set out on a vengeance mission.”

“I see. That means…”

(Grrrrrr)

He was interrupted by the ringtone of his phone. He halted and looked at the caller and requested.

“Excuse me, please. This is an important call.”

He swiped his phone to receive the call and greeted cheerfully while the General Manager looked on.

“Hello, Ambassador. I want to believe that you are in Toronto.”

“Yes. I am with the Prime Minister, and we are at the gate of the complex.”

Mr. Ken Israel could not remember the last word that he wanted to say because he was excited with the information from Ambassador Liam Grayson. He responded at once as he attempted to get up from his seat.

“What a surprise visits. I will be with you shortly.”

“It is all right.”

“Let's meet them. Inform Mr. Ferguson to meet us at the vestibule.”

“Who are they, if I may ask?”

“Oh! I apologize. The Prime Minister and the Canadian Ambassador to Nigeria are here on an official visit.”

“I see.”

They got off the office and the Ken instructed the secretary.

“Come with me, Daniel. We have visitors.”

“All right, boss.”

He got off his seat and followed him at once. When they got to the vestibule, they waited. Now, the General Manager was standing beside him while Mr. Ferguson and his men were busy trying to set up their equipment.
