29 Random Act of Kindness 9

“I sent him to pick my granddaughter from the airport.”

“Jewel?” He asked in astonishment.

“Yes. She must have had a funny feeling about the accident.”

“Oh! My goodness. How do we break the news to her?”

“She is not aware that you are in Toronto. You can return to your room. I will handle her.”

“That is if Leon had not informed her.” Dora added.

“Let's see how it goes.”

“All right, mother. We are waiting.” Ken declared as he stood up and his wife followed. Then, madam Jessica took her system to the parlor and began to wait for Leon and Jewel's arrival.

At the Ken's and Dora's Suite

Dora acquainted her husband with all that happened at the hospital beginning from how Leon ran to them and asked if there was any death at the Surgical Center that day.

“That is funny.”

“Very funny.”

They laughed at Leon's anxiety and suddenly, Ken declared.

“Wifey. I just remembered. I am suspecting that Prof. George Green was the teacher who saved father when Mr. Edward Murray wanted to kill him.”

Now, Dora's beamed at the revelation and she stated.

“When I heard the name, it sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it anywhere. What made you think so?”

“I checked his age, and he is ten years older than father.”

“Yes. Father said that he was seventeen years old, while his teacher was twenty-seven. Father would be happy to hear that.”

“That would be the greatest recovery gift that he would receive.”

“You are right. If I may ask, when did you settle the bills for the patients?”

“I wired the total sum last night and sent the proof of payment to the doctors. Is anything the matter?”

“Not really. They had been discharged. We could not exhaust our lunch.”

Now. Ken, who was lying with his back on the bed while chatting leisurely with his wife, sat up and asked.

“Are you kidding me? Does it mean that the hospital had been holding them to ransom because of their bills?”

“Certainly. Otherwise, the doctor's would not get their pays.”

“You are right.” He admitted and laid back on his bed. Soon, he dozed off and Dora sneaked out of the bed to the suite's parlor to receive Jewel in case her mother-in-law would bring her to their suite. With her, in the parlor, her husband would have a good rest. Then, she began to chat with her staff members at her restaurant in Nigeria.

At the Airport.

Leon and his team arrived at the airport after forty-five minutes.

“I will get her,” Leon announced.

“All right, Young Master.”

He walked to the waiting lounge and met Jewel waiting.

“What a surprise?” Leon exclaimed.

“Yes. I'm excited to see you, Leon. How is everyone?”

“Everyone is fine. How is school?”

“School is fine, and yours?”

“Fine. Let's go.” Leon requested. He picked up her luggage, and they walked to the car park.

“How was your flight?” Leon asked after they drove off.

“My flight was great. Was grandpa at home when you left?”

“I would not know. I came from school.”

“School? What about Jeff, then, why didn't you come with him?”

“He is busy with work.”

“Oh! I see. What…”

“Are your parents aware that you left Paris for Toronto?”

Jeff interrupted to stop her from asking more questions that he may not have the answer. Now, she was short of words. She actually sneaked out of school when she started missing her brother and grandfather to visit them briefly and return to school. She was aware that her parents would not permit such unnecessary visit, especially now that schools just resumed.

“They are not, and I don't want them to. I will return after the weekend," Leon gave her a brief look and concentrated on his driving.

“That is good,” he acknowledged.

At the Morris Ancestral Manor

Eventually, they were at home. When he parked at the veranda, madam Jessica walked out gaily from the parlor to receive them.

“Grandma.”

She burst out when she sighted her. She opened the car door and walked as hastily as she could into her open arms.

“Welcome home, my dear.”

“Thank you, grandma. You look good.”

“Thank you dear. You look good, too.” She responded and walked her towards the elevator before she would ask the much dreaded question.

“What brings you, my dear?”

She inquired when they got into the elevator.

“Oh, I miss everyone, especially grandpa and Jeff. Are they back from work?”

“Not yet. How was your trip?”

“My trip was splendid.”

Now, she guided her to her suite and made her to relax.

“You must be starving. I have been waiting to have lunch with you.”

“Yes, grandma.”

“All right. I will ask Adline to get it here.”

Jewel was excited to have lunch with her grandmother, especially at her suite. That would give her the privilege of waiting for her grandfather and also meet him. Then, madam Jessica gave Adline a call and ordered for late lunch.

“Consider it done, madam.”

Meanwhile, Leon had parked his car at the garage and got to the suite with her luggage.

“Good evening, grandma.”

“Good evening, Leon. Thank you for bringing her back.”

“You are welcome, grandma.”

“You can join us for lunch.”

“All right grandma. I will be back.”

Now, Leon walked to his room to drop his stuff while madam Jessica sent a message to Dora.

(She is around.)

Even an adult would be devastated with the news of a loved one being in coma, much more a nineteen years over dotted only daughter and granddaughter. The situation became more complex when two loved ones were involved.

(It is noted, mother. What do I do?)

To be precise, madam Jessica was also lost of what to do. She looked at Jewel's happy face and felt bad that it may be replaced with a sad one.

(Let's see how it goes. Just inform your husband.)

(I will.)

Thereafter, Leon, who had changed to his casual wears, joined them while Dora joined her husband in the bedroom. Then, he gradually opened his eyes when she opened the door and walked in.
