Chapter 34: Mourn the Sinner

Eris’ nerves were shot by the time they got through the next town. The capital was in the distance, though it was too late in the evening for them to gain passage into the city. Marion had exceeded every expectation he could have thought to have that day beside the pond. They had picked up the skills of a mage-warrior with ease, as if it was what they had always been meant to be. Their skill had not done anything to settle the growing pit of worry in his gut though.

Agis was by no means a fair man, nor was he particularly forgiving. Eris had lived when he was not mean to and he had, in every right, earned his father’s ire. He felt a strange grief that burned his lungs. Despite his father’s fall from grace, cavorting with demons, and attempted filicide… Eris prayed that the blade of queensilver would never need to leave its sheathe. He prayed that Marion would never have to come to his aid.
