The Five Noble Families

Fang An and Xiao Chen walked quickly until Fang An finally saw the group Xiao Chen was referring to.

A luxurious green chariot pulled by four powerful horses was equipped with a flag that read Liu. In addition to the carts, there are several carts pulled by a horse, carrying boxes that are usually used to store valuables.

The car group was controlled by around 30 people who were all on horseback. These guards are each fully armed and also wear protective clothing.

"It turned out to be an entourage from the Liu family…" Fang An smiled faintly before looking at Xiao Chen.

Xiao Chen didn't say anything, he naturally knew about the Liu family, one of the five noble families of the Han Empire. Fang An thought that Xiao Chen must have read the records about these five noble families.

In the Han Empire there were five aristocratic families that wielded immense influence namely the Yin, Wang, Liu, Mu and Song families.

The Yin family is none other than the Han Imperial family that has been in power for over 500 years. The Wang family was known as an aristocratic family that produced weapons and had strong ties to many sects of the white sect.

The Mu family was an aristocratic family allied with the Yin family. The new Han Emperor Yin Song had a Mu family wife, Mu Rong, Yin Xuehua's mother. The Mu family itself was the largest merchant family that owned countless businesses throughout the Han Empire.

The Liu family was the oldest noble family in the Han Empire, they were also the ruling family before being replaced by the Yin family. The Liu family is famous as a family of ministers because it gave birth to so many scholars and nearly 70% of the ministers and important officials in the government are from the Liu family.

The Song family was famous as a military family, almost all generals and top military officers came from the Song family. Judging from combat power, the Song family kept pace with the major sects because of the number of warriors they had.

Fang An had always advised Xiao Chen beforehand to avoid dealing with any of these five families as much as possible because they were people full of schemes. Fang An also never expected that he would become close to Yin Song, one could say that both Fang An and Xiao Chen had close ties to the Yin family.

Two bodyguards noticed Fang An and Xiao Chen's presence, and approached the two of them.

"Who are you? How dare you approach this group?" said one of the bodyguards.

"Sorry, we didn't know beforehand. We will keep our distance." Fang An replied with a smile.

Xiao Chen saw that the two bodyguards before them were third rate warriors, Fang An could have finished them both off in one strike but Xiao Chen understood Fang An's reason for giving face to the two.

The goal of the two was to reach the Capital as soon as possible so it was best to avoid unnecessary trouble. Fang An and Xiao Chen finally stopped walking and allowed the group to take some distance from them.

"Master, wouldn't it be easier if we got ahead of them? It seems their traveling speed is slow due to carrying a lot of stuff." Xiao Chen asked.

"When night falls, they will rest earlier than us because their horses must be tired… That's when we will pass them." Fang An explained.

As far as Fang An was concerned most nobles attached great importance to their pride and were easily offended by simple actions. Fang An did have some experience because there was a mission where he had to deal with aristocratic families, one of which was the Liu family.

"Besides that they were carrying a lot of valuables, there is a possibility that their journey was discovered by robbers. If we get ahead of them on a bright day like this there is a possibility that the robbers who are after them will block our way." Fang An added.

Xiao Chen nodded slowly, he would not have thought that far if not for Fang An's analysis.

"It seems that the peaceful past three years made my thinking towards this kind of situation dull…" Xiao Chen lowered his head and pondered many things.

Time passed and as the sun was about to set, the train group stopped. Fang An and Xiao Chen were again quite close to the group, the two intended to continue on but again there were several bodyguards blocking the two.

"Didn't I tell you to keep your distance?" said the bodyguard who had come to Fang An earlier.

Fang An still explained carefully that he and Xiao Chen were in a hurry. Both of them wanted to continue their journey so they had to pass through this group.

"We can't leave you like that. Maybe you guys will tell the robbers about our whereabouts or something. You can continue your journey tomorrow morning." Said one of the bodyguards.

"Don't you guys think it's too much?" Xiao Chen couldn't help but look at the behavior of these bodyguards.

"What is this little child talking about?" The bodyguard was clearly not happy that a brat like Xiao Chen was interfering, he stared at Xiao Chen as if he wanted to swallow him alive.

Fang An stepped in front of Xiao Chen, mediating between the bodyguard and his disciple, "Is there a need to behave like that with the children?"

Xiao Chen smiled broadly, he knew Fang An was a patient person. As long as this bodyguard only suppressed Fang An, perhaps nothing would happen but Fang An really didn't like someone offending his closest people.

The reason Xiao Chen spoke up was because he wanted Fang An to bare his fangs at these bodyguards.

The bodyguards wanted to say harsh words but no words could come out of their mouths when they noticed Fang An's icy gaze. Their instincts as warriors told them that Fang An was not someone they could face.

At the same time, a young man got down from the green carriage. The young man looked to be around 17 or 18 years old, wearing a beautifully patterned silk robe while carrying a fan in his hand.

The young man immediately noticed that Fang An and Xiao Chen were being intercepted by the bodyguards. He intended to call one of the bodyguards to find out the situation, but the young man called it off when he took a closer look at Fang An.

The young man's mouth opened slightly, he glanced at the robes that Fang An and Xiao Chen were wearing before rushing over to the two.

"Elder Fang, I didn't expect to meet you on this trip…" The young man saluted while smiling broadly at Fang An, his demeanor making the bodyguards uncomfortable.

"Young master, I don't seem to recognize you…" Fang An scanned the young man's rather handsome face but he was sure that this was their first meeting.

The young man introduced himself as Liu Cheng, he then asked about the situation between Fang An and his bodyguards.
