Sterling quirked his brow. The corner of his mouth twitched in uncertainty. As he glanced at Faye, he couldn't help but feel a knot of unease tightening in his stomach. "I am pleased to see you hold so much trust in my skills with handling Lena," he muttered, his voice tinged with apprehension.

"But I don't know if what you say will work. What if Lena expects something from me—Something, I am not willing to give her in return for doing this favor?"

His brows lifted in consternation, waiting for Faye's reply.

"I have a question." Faye asked, "If you are trying to keep things quiet and away from the emperor, then why are you sending them back to the capital as a decoy? I mean—I understand part of it, but…wouldn't that be counterproductive to what we are trying to achieve here?"

Sterling replied, "because, darling butterfly, they are not going to the capital?"

"Huh?"
