Faye watched as Sterling left with Lana and Laura. The once beautiful fragrance of the paper flowers that had been so calming now reeked of bitterness and heartache.
Faye sank back in her chair, reflecting on what Sterling had witnessed, and wondered if he thought she was still going to be such a splendid mother after all.

Three weeks had passed since Faye recovered, and harmony had returned to Faye and Sterling's life. She was glowing and happy.
Well enough and eager to return home to Everton with her husband, the Duke.
Sterling sat across from her in the rectors' office, watching Faye stuffing her face with apple pancakes and walnut syrup.
Her appetite had revived with a vengeance, and this made Sterling's heart happy to see.
"Here, have another pancake." Sterling said, poking another off the serving tray with his fork and placing it before Faye as she eagerly poured more syrup on it and scarfed it down.
