Carter removed his cloak and securely wrapped Dahlia in its furry warmth, hiding her body behind the enormous log.
More footsteps were heard. Even in the darkness, Carter could see the scrub and bush move around him. They were not alone, and more than one entity was tracking them.
[Wolves!] Gideon warned.
[I sense at least three: a tracker and a warrior.] The blonde wolf in Carter's head raised his snout and inhaled the air. [Sniff…I smell an alpha, too.]
Just as Gideon finished his remark, a giant red wolf with green eyes appeared from the edge of the dark forest into the clearing, and Carter tensed.
It was Alpha Angus's wolf standing on the periphery of the woods, and the last thing he needed right now was a pissing contest with a vengeful alpha wolf.
Carter saw Angus's eyes cloud over and heard the Alpha's voice in his head through the mind link.
