With both of our drinks gone and the café nearing its close, Eileen and I wander out into the night, slowly strolling down the city streets as the cool air blows against our faces.
Maybe it’s the fact that she’s a vampire or that her skin is so pale, but Eileen really shines in the night. She radiates this sort of luminescent glow around her that draws me in more and more every time I catch her glancing in my direction. I smile warmly at her, and she returns it; a small exchange of mutual feelings and understanding passing between us.
I let my gaze wander back out at the city, enjoying the comfortable silence we’ve created. She silently reaches toward me, sliding her hand in mine as we walk. I look down at our hands, and she immediately tries to play it casual, glancing off the other way. She really is adorably awkward when you break down the cool outer facade.
“Are you blushing?”
She scoffs, “I can only go from pale to extra pale. Blushing isn't in the cards.”
