Dumb and Dumber

Roland poked his head outside the cave and saw that it was clear.

'Damn it's so hot! And Where should I go first?' Roland felt the hot air as he looked around the mountains.

There were multiple paths to choose from and all of them looked similar!, with not a clear landmark. Roland was concerned that he might get lost.

'First what am I looking for?'

'I want to know where the forest and prison are. Because the old man was too fast last time, I wasn't able to see the direction we went.' Roland lamented.

Unlike most people who had a good sense of direction but a poor sense of time, Roland was the complete opposite. He wasn't sure which direction they went towards last time.

'First let's find out which direction the forest is located then we'll find the prison, if I can, I'll visit master.' Roland thought.

He picked up a few rocks and arranged them in a way he'd remember, and placed them near the mountain with the crystal wall.

'Maybe I should get a good vantage point first. Searching around aimlessly in this place would be hell on the legs 'He looked up the mountain and begun his ascend.

The mountain had multiple hug boulder that made it easy to climb but they seem less at the top and they didn't seem stable.

There wasn't any clear trail or curtain path to follow so Roland had to raw-dog it.

'Was this man-made, how can it form naturally?' Roland jumped from boulder to boulder.

He did this a few times and quickly got high, pretty soon he had reached the height of a house. Roland bent his knees and jumped with everything he had.

*thud*

He landed on the solid part of the mountain and started to climb. The mountain wasn't too steep, so he could walk up the mountain.

'At least I won't need to jump anytime soon'

'Maybe climbing wasn't the best option.' Roland shook his head as he looked down then up the mountain. He took multiple deep breaths to calm himself down and carried on climbing the mountain.

The mountains weren't that tall, only about 60 feet tall or the same size as a cell phone tower, but there were a few mountains that towered over the rest.

_Twenty minutes later_

Roland leaped up and grabbed onto a piece of rock that was hanging from the top, he used his legs and his arms to quickly pull himself up.

*huff* *huff*

'I made it! It's annoyingly hot.' Roland didn't even lay on the smouldering hot floor, he got up and proceeded to move.

His hands and feet were even dirtier then they were prior, he had cuts and bruises on various places on his body, but mostly his hands and feet.

*huff* *huff*

'I'm tired but I need to get up.' Roland stood up and looked around but he was shocked by what he saw.

Multiple mountains covered his field of vision, some of them were tall while others were short. The taller once prevented his sight from going further.

He couldn't see a single tree or plant.

'Damn it! This is definitely man-made! Whoever designed it like this deserves a beating!' Roland's body felt weak all over, he looked up towards the rest of the mountain.

He was ninety-five percent up the mountain, the rest of the mountain was unclimbable or rather Roland couldn't see a way to climb it.

'Let me check the other side.' Roland walked around the mountain, he wanted to get a proper three hundred and sixty degree view.

Roland went around the mountain but it still didn't help, it was all mountains as far as the eye could see.

*sigh*

Roland sat down in a shady area for a bit and just stared into the open area with a blank expression. His body slumped down, nothing was going as planned today, even the system was acting up.

*whoosh*

Just then the breeze blew and with it, Roland saw a green leaf flying in his direction. Looking at the leaf, Roland's eyes lit up.

The leaf had to have come from a tree of some sort and since there's no vegetation in sight, where the leaf came from has to be the directions his looking for, right?

'It's that way, it has to be.' Roland regained some energy and memorized that direction.

*sigh*

'Now that's done, let's get down from here and try to find the prison.'

_Twenty minutes later_

*thud*

Roland's feet hit the ground, he had climbed down the mountain quite fast but he slowed down a few times just to be careful.

"Dude, I'm telling you, he should be right here."

Suddenly, Roland heard the voices and hide in between boulders.

The two guards from earlier appeared, one of them kept looking up the mountains.

"Bro, there's no way that you saw a prisoner climbing a mountain." Guard number two said in frustration.

"Dude, Don't worry, you'll see for yourself. I think it was this one, let's climb it.' Guard number one said, not looking at his friend.

"Bro, No let's not. It's just extra work that we don't need to do." Guard number 2 shrugged his shoulders and stood still, coincidentally this was near Roland.

"Dude, Look there is two ways I see this. The first, is that your right and you did see a prisoner out here, that means that he possibly escaped his cell and that's not our responsibility"

"Or second, your eyes played tricks on you and there's no prisoner and in this crazy heat it's not strange, but in both cases we don't have to search for anyone." Guard number two spoke passionately.

"Dude just say your lazy, there's no need to try and justify not doing our jobs." Guard number one looked at his friend disapprovingly.

"Bro! What justify! Fine then I'm lazy and I don't want to search for no ghost prisoner. There are you happy!" Guard number two looked appalled and quickly stated.

"Dude your wrong, we are patrolling here and if there's a prisoner out here it's our necks on the line plus it's our job dude." Guard number one walked up to his friend and explained.

"F*ck these jobs, bro if it wasn't for our academy debts we wouldn't be doing this Damn jo... wait bro I have an idea. How about this, instead of aimlessly searching for the prisoner how about we go to the prison and see if every prisoner is accounted for." Guard number had an amazing ideas. It was so amazing that Roland's eyes lit up. What a stroke of luck

"Dude stop being lazy, it's already good enough that we didn't get sent to fight off the beast, so let's just do the work."

"No Bro, think about it. There's about ten thousand mountains here and we're currently near the center, if you indeed saw a prisoner this way, we'd have search a good distance just to confirm but if we go to the prison then it's a done deal."

"Dude...."

.....

They argued for a few minutes minutes before they finally decided to go to the prison.

'What the hack is wrong with these two, how are they both smart and dumb at the same time.' Roland shook his head as he followed behind them, they were heading east.

Roland followed closely behind them until he noticed something.

'Why aren't there any other guards. These two mentioned earlier that they were sent to fight some beasts! Is that the reason I've been left alone these days?' Roland wondered, not that he was complaining. He figured that it would be harder to walk here if there was other guards, especially in his attire.

_Five minutes later_

The two guards walked towards the tallest and biggest mountain in the area and walked through it.

"!!!"

Roland was surprised by this. There wasn't an opening on the mountain but the actual mountain wall.

'Is the wall there an illusion? That's the only explanation I can come up with.' Roland frowned.

'Now the question is, do I follow them? Of cause I can't go around, this mountain is one thick boy.' Roland decided and walked towards the mountain.

Even up close, Roland couldn't properly tell if it was an illusion or an actual wall.

With multiple question running around in his brain, Roland reached out his hand to touch the mountain but his hand went through it....

'It is an illusion! What a crafty way to hide it but why hide it in the first place.' Roland thought as he took a step forward...
