CHAPTER 37

Once the bazaar was over, summer was slowly approaching.

"It's going to be a hot summer without air conditioning, isn't it?

While I was thinking about this, a scary fact suddenly popped into my head.

'By the way. . . . . How long has Edit appeared in the original?'

I don't know why that thought suddenly came to mind.

< No Obsession > Book of Romance has 5 volumes in series. and Edith characters appeared until around the end of the 3rd volume and disappeared before the 5th volume began. Then, at the beginning of volume 5, Lizzy proposes to Cliff with a confession of love.

'How old was Lizzy at that time?'

Lizzy and I are both twenty-two years old now. and when Cliff proposed to her, she was twenty-three.

'I'm sure. At that age, I thought it was the age when I didn't graduate from college.'

Okay, so here's the quiz. How many months until the episode where my head is blown off? as I thought about it, my back suddenly broke out in a cold sweat. Then, out of the blue, Anna knocked on my door.

"Miss! Now, you should come out for a while!"

"Huh? What is going on?"

A shiver of foreboding ran down my spine. As I walked out into the hallway, I heard a woman's wailing coming from the front door on the first floor.

"I beg you! please let me meet my lady! She couldn't even leave her house without me before she got married, and I can't imagine how she was doing here on your own. . . . !"

I went down after Anna, wondering what kind of fuss this was, and on the ground floor, there were already the Duchess and Butler Philip, as well as Cliff, Killian, and Lizzy

"Oh. . . . . . ?"

I carefully sat on the porch of Duke Ludwig's mansion and saw a woman crying, and a chill ran down my spine. Then she saw me and called out my name before I had a chance to dodge.

"Ah, miss! Miss Edith."

"So. . . . Sophia . . . . ."

"Oh, my gosh, our miss. . . . . Why did your face look so pale?"

"Yes? What? What?"

Sophia, whom I hadn't seen in a long time, hung on to me with a face that worried me to death, unlike in Riegelhoff house. I wondered how the maid made the duchess and the heir of Ludwig family come down, and behind Sophia, Shane was stood there.

"Brother. . . . ?"

I called out to Shane blankly, but he stood facing the Duchess, not me, and spoke with a gloomy expression.

"I do apologize for the disturbance. But Sophia, Edith's dedicated maid, missed her dearly, and we. . . . .I was so anxious because I had no idea how Edith was doing."

"You could have visited and met Edith at any time."

"Thank you for your kind words, but you probably know that it's not as easy as it says. So, please, let Sophia stay by Edith's side. She just a mere maid anyway?"

I suddenly felt like I knew what Shane was talking about when he said 'how to tighten a dog's leash'.

"Oh, brother! I'm really fine!"

"Miss! please, please, please don't abandon me. Yes? Ugh. . . . . feel free to beat me up and punish me. I'm only here to serve the you miss. . . . . . . "

Sophia clung to me even more. Then Shane also helped.

"Edith. Isn't it Sophia who has been with you since you were a child? How worried Sophia was about you. . . . ."

"There are many rumors that the lady is being persecuted by the duke! You can't even come out to a tea party with your close friend. . . . ."

Sophia screamed as if she couldn't stand it anymore. I thought I wouldn't be falsely accused of gossiping about Lizzy if I left the party, but I didn't know it would provide an excuse like this. I looked at the Duchess and Killian without realizing it.

"Who says i being persecuted!"

"You're still saving other people's faces! I heard that you were sitting alone at the bazaar like a loner. All in this house only cared about they honor guests Miss Sinclair."

Ah,that's kind of irrefutable. The Duchess and others shrugged their shoulders as if they were being stabbed. In the end, the Ludwigs had no reason to reject Sophia and enter the Duke house.

"If you're so worried, leave this maid behind. I'll use her as Edith's exclusive maid."

"Thank you . Sophia's salary will be taken care of by my family."

"No, you don't have to."

"No. If Sophia is also conscious of this house, who will protect our Edith?"

Hah. Anyone who sees it will think it's a sister complex. That man slapped me on the cheek. . . . ! But I couldn't bring myself to point it out. I was going to say it 'Didn't you hit me at the bazaar?' But then my tongue got stiff again, and I heard a rigging in my ears.

'Jeeeriii-ra-ah-ah-ah!!'

I had refused several times that I didn't need a Riegelhoff maid, but I had to accept Sohpia, thanks to Shane. who pushed me to accept it. Although it did not pay attention to the Duchess.

'Is this. . . . . also the flow of the original?'

Come to think of it, all the episodes that will happen in the next episode were driven by Sophia action. poisoning attempts, information leaks, spying, etc.

'What should I do? How can I stop this?'

Sophia was a mercenary who was skilled in assassination and theft. It was almost impossible for me to resist Sophia. Besides, she must have been entrusted with full authority over my disposition by Count Riegelhoff, and even if I died in the hands of that maid, Count Riegelhoff would not blink his eyes. Of course, I wasn't completely without faith.

'If I die, sophia can't stay in this house anymore. The original will be a big mess, too.'

So she won't kill me. I was so anxiously looking for Anna to teach Sophia the job. When only Sophia and I were left in the room, Sophia changed her expression.

"It's been a long time, Miss Edith."

". . . . . I don't think it's been that long."

"I didn't expect it when I heard from Shane about the you, but I guess it was true when I saw you answering."

wow, that's so creepy. I swallowed my instinctive fear and tried to look as calm as possible.

"Sophia. The power of the Duke of Ludwig is not something all that can be seen. And it's getting stronger every day. If my father doesn't change his mind, our whole family is in danger."

"That's not for you to judge. Miss, all you have to do is follow the Lord's orders."

"Even though they're all going to die?"

"Shouldn't you think about honoring your family name with your life, and instead of just making weak noises because you don't have enough breath in your throat?"

Oh, this is real. Sophia is a dog for Count Riegelhoff to the bone. I wondered how I could have followed her so far.

"Shane said that you didn't send the weapons-related documents. . . . ."

"I didn't send it."

"Because you knew it was a fake document? Did the Duke copy your handwriting and send it because he was afraid that things would go wrong because you didn't send it?"

uh? could you have thought so? But I didn't think the Duke's family did such a thing. The reason they let me see the fake document was not to attack the Count's family, it because they want to test me out. Even so, if i want to avoid getting beaten up by Sophia, it would have been better to say that I didn't send it because I thought it was a fake document. But on the other hand, if i acted that way, i could have been suspected by Killian again.

'Just don't make Killian suspicious at you again. And make it right.'

I answered, thinking of 'choice and focus' once again.

"I didn't even think it was a fake document. Because I don't have any thoughts to steal it in the first place."

As expected, Sophia's gaze became more stingy cold.

"So. . . . . You mean you really made up your mind to betray your family."

"I'm not sure why this is a betrayal. Are you sure that if they attacked the Duke of Ludwig, count Riegelhoff would win? If the archduke Langston becomes emperor, do you think he'll give his father the duke title? the Emperor's right hand is now firm, and the Duke Ludwig is stronger than the Archduke of Langston."

"You wrong. Archduke Langston is using the count moderately, and sooner or later, the Emperor and the Duke of Ludwig will fall."

"Who said that? My father? My father is mistaken. it's all just my father's wishes!"

Puck, I think I heard something. Sophia approached me and hit me in the back of my head, perhaps because she felt a small sneering in my voice.

"Does a shallow sow make fun of its snout in an arrogant way?"

Sophia quit her honorifics and cursed at me and began to beat me viciously on the parts of my body that were covered by my clothes.

"Argh! Ouch!"

It hurt more than I imagined. The learned person was so different, so she hit the places that were painful but not unnoticeable. I rebelled too, but Sophia was not even budging like a human made of wood. Then, all of sudden, she strangled my neck and said.
