“Can I?” he asked simply, not giving anything away.

Kara was so wrapped up in the moment that she wasn’t sure she could form real words. To save her any further embarrassment, she nodded wordlessly, granting him permission.

Kara hadn’t hoped for much in her life. Coming to Eithra, she had only wanted to do what was best for her family and for her people. She didn’t expect to fall in love, or soar through the skies on the back of a dragon.


All those seemed far-fetched at the time, but never in her wildest dreams had she expected that she would be dragged violently through a dark tunnel. Kara had no idea where Acheron was taking her, but she knew deep in her soul that it wasn’t anything good.


The tunnel was dark and grimy. She was too distracted by the painful rope around her wrists to try and figure out where they were headed. All hopes seemed lost, and there didn’t seem to be any chance for escape. The one thing that could have saved her had deserted her. So much for hiding powers that couldn’t be there when she needed it the most.
