Chapter 49: Psyker, Gavid, and Heber

Frantically, Kara pushed open the rusted door, heart pounding with a symphony of fears as she raced towards the lever. She hoped, prayed, that after Acheron had left her by the tree, he hadn’t come back to put an end to Eerik.

With a twist of her wrist, she pulled the cage open, cradling Eerik in her arms. Once again, tears streamed down her face at the sight of him. She shook him sharply, urging him to open his eyes.

“Eerik,” she cried desperately. “Eerik, please.”

No! It couldn’t end like this. Not after she almost bled to death, not after she saw her father for the first time in her life. There was a resolve burning deep within her veins; it wouldn't end like this.

Pushing up power deep within her veins, Kara pressed her forehead against Eerik’s, willing him awake. She wasn’t sure what she was doing, or if he was dead, but it was her will and she was going to make it happen.
