She Questioned Herself

Mrs. Brown walked away, leaving Lucia alone in the corridor. Lucia felt nervous as she walked to the ward where Ester was staying. Hesitating at the door, she felt a tight knot in her stomach.

Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open. The ward was quiet and dimly lit, with only the soft beeping of machines monitoring Ester's vital signs. Ester lay on the bed, her eyes closed as if asleep.

Approaching slowly, Lucia stood by her side. Ester slowly opened her eyes, blinking a few times to focus. A faint smile spread across her lips.

"You're here," Ester whispered.

Lucia smiled back, "Yes, I'm here. It's good to see you, Ester."

Ester turned to look at her more closely. "It's good that you're here. I never thought I would see you here again."

"Ester, do you recognize me?" Lucia asked just to be sure.
