Barely, Grange managed to get his sword in the way, but he paid even for the parry. He was sent flying across the ground, his body bouncing as it went.

"What in the name of the Gods… was that?" Ironbane muttered. Those were not the moves of a man in the Second Boundary. There was far too much speed for that. Ironbane thought he could have trained for another thirty years and he would never have approached that level of technique, not without another Boundary Break to complement it.

And to make the matter worse, Vol wore that same look, like a man without a single reaction to the world that he was in. It was a look of faint bemusement. There seemed to be only the barest hint of interest there, as if they weren't good enough to even get him excited.
