The Pursuit - Part 8

Vol thought he knew. The way Pandora's flames gathered elements of a like sort. There was a reasoning in that which might apply to the likes of sparing lives. But in the same vein, he wasn't willing to admit quite so readily that doing such things was wrong. He didn't regret the killings he'd committed in the past. What he regretted was wasted efficiency.

'The fact is, though, I am alive,' he thought to himself as he clenched his fist. 'For the villain that the Earl labels me to be, I'm still alive, despite my villainy. It can't be as weak as he thinks then, can it?'

"I will think on it," Vol said. "You should get to sleep. Even your carriage will need to be used come the morning. We still have a lot of ground to cover."
