The Border - Part 6

"There's worth in this, isn't there, Pandora?" Vol asked.

"Hm? That's an awfully pathetic sounding question, Vessel. Are you searching for my approval like some abandoned child?"

"That isn't what I meant," he snared back. "I'm asking about the fatigue that comes with Summoning. Is that a fatigue that builds with the act of Summoning, or with maintaining it?"

"Ah," Pandora said. "It comes with the Summoning itself. Forcing order where there was previously disorder. That takes much energy. Simply maintaining a summon takes far less – though I do believe you have failed to maintain any large summons beyond their natural expiry, have you?"

"The time for that sort of experimenting ran out," Vol said. "Now I'm stuck here, having to rebuild an army again. If only it was as easy to rebuild men as it was to rebuild summons."
