Maria took two gold rings from a nearby servant holding them for her before turning back to the couple. She placed the bigger ring in Auralia's hand before giving Alexander his ring.
The rings were a simple design, neither Auralia nor Alexander too keen on bling or anything over the top. Maria was a bit annoyed by this, but compromised with the rings being completely gold with their initials engraved into it.
Auralia gazed at the simple ring in her hand, it making everything all too real. She was getting engaged. She was going to get married, not for love like she once hoped, but because of a contract.
A part of her wondered how her parents would feel about this seeing as they always wanted her to marry for love. She wasn't sure why this suddenly dawned on her. Perhaps the whole marriage thing hadn't felt real enough.
A distance thing compared to everything else that was going on in her life.
