Chapter 4- The Reveal

Tuesday, February 7th

I woke up, and I was in a great mood. I mean how could I not? The love of my life asked me out and my mom accepted, well kind of. The only downside is, well, everything else.

I eat breakfast and grab my school stuff. I wave my mom goodbye and head to the station, eager to see Karma.

~~~~~~
"Hey Nagi-chan," Karma waved me over. I walked over to him, and smiled.
"Hey Karma!" I stand on my tippy toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. His face exploded into a deep shade of red, and he looked shocked, very shocked. Which, admittedly, I was hoping I could catch him off guard. He's absolutely adorable when he blushes, but unlike me, who takes forever to stop blushing, Karma gets over it pretty fast.
"How Nagi-chan I didn't think you had it in you to do something like that. Well not out in public at least," he winked. Oh crap! So many people probably just saw that! What if someone from school saw? I'm never having confidence again. I could feel my entire face grow hot. I could even feel the tips of my ears start to burn.
"I guess I didn't think about how people from school or people that we might know could see. Sorry Karma," I look down and play with my fingers. I heard him laugh. That doesn't make me feel better in the slightest.
"It's okay. You know I love to show you off," he winked at me and gave me a quick peck on the lips before grabbing my hand and walking me into the train. Just when I thought my face couldn't get any redder he does things like that.
On the train ride he lets me play on his phone to keep me occupied; he even gave me some tips to help me play better.
~~~~~~

We got off and made our way up the hill to classroom 3-E. Karma had to stop a few times; he insisted I kept going and that 'he would catch up', but I ignored him and waited.

"Y'know you can just go. I don't want you to be late," he sighed as he sat down on a rock. I shook my head, no way was I leaving him.

"I know I can 'just go', but I don't want to; I don't care if I'm late," I said sternly. I was not budging on this; No way am I leaving his side.

"Oh Nagi-chan what would I do without you," he chuckled as he shook his head. I smiled at him and sat on the rock next to him.

"You would probably be doing so many stupid and self destructive things," I said sweetly and looked up at him. My tone made him roll his eyes, and look down at me.

"Yeah, whatever," he stood up and offered me his hand. I gladly grabbed it and stood up. We managed to walk the rest of the way without any problems.

~~~~~~
When we walk in the building we let go of each other's hands and walk into the classroom.
All eyes were on us.
"Sorry we're late," I looked down and scurried to my seat, not liking all the attention that was on me. Karma just shrugged, walked to his seat in the back and sat down.
Sugnio leaned over his desk and whispered something in my ear.
"Why were you late? You're never late," he asked. I shrugged. I didn't feel like getting into it right now. He opened his mouth to say something else, but I think he got the hint because he just closed it and looked back to the front.
~~~~~~

The rest of the day went by in a blur. I was very anxious to tell our friends that we were together.

What would they think? Would they even care? A thousand other questions dance in my subconscious. Karma sat out on training again, which I am thankful he did because he does not need to be straining himself more than he already does.

He said during lunch that he would tell the class about us afterschool, which I honestly don’t know if I’m ready to do. The last bell rang, and I grabbed my stuff and walked over to him.

“Hey Karma,” I started.

“Hey Nagi-chan, ready to tell them? We better do it before everyone leaves,” he pointed out. No, no I was not ready. Not in the slightest.

“Yup,” I nodded. All I could think was how many ways that this could fail.

“Hey guys, Nagi-chan and I have something to tell you!” He announced. Oh well there isn’t any going back now.

“Yes, Karma,” Korosensei ‘walked’ (if you can call it that - slithered maybe?) over here to us. If I could’ve hid behind Karma I would’ve, but that wouldn’t be fair. The rest of the class turned to hear the announcement as well.

He grabbed my hand, “we're dating!” He announced. The class looked at each other before looking back at us. Nakamura was the first to say something. (Of course; I swear I don’t have anything against her, but she doesn’t always have to put her two cents in first.)

“Oh my God! Finally! Honestly, the pining was painful to watch,” she said, far too dramatically for the situation at hand.

“Thanks Rio-chan; I love the support,” Karma rolled his eyes, but was smiling anyway.

“Who asked out who?” Nakamura asked. I really didn’t think it mattered, but I pointed at Karma anyway.

“Only yours truly,” he said smugly. Nakamura smirked and Kayano pouted and started digging in her bag. What could she be doing?

“Told you Kayano,” Nakamura said smugly.

“What are you two talking about?” I asked as Kayano pulled some money out of her bag and handed it to Nakamura.

“We made a bet on who would ask who out first, and I lost,” Kayano pouted.

“I knew Nagisa wouldn’t have the guts,” Nakamura smirked at me, and I just glared at her back.

“You should have to split that with me, Rio-chan. Afterall, I did technically won it for you,” Karma said matter-a-factly. I glared at him too. No way he is going to let this slide. I was about to scold them for betting on us, but Korosensei beat me to it.

“Now students, you shouldn’t bet on your fellow classmates,” Korosensei scolded. At least someone is responsible.

“I agree with Korosensei,” I smiled triumphantly because finally someone gets it.

“Oh I think not, octopus, pay up,” Professor Bitch sassed, holding her hand out. What’s that supposed to mean? Did he really bet on us too?

“Oh… I thought you might have forgotten,” he chuckled nervously before he sighed and reached into his coin purse to pull out his own money.

“Goodbye, Gelato funds,” he fake cried.

“Hah! Even the teachers bet on you two!” Nakamura mocked. I rolled my eyes, and Karma gasped dramatically. Finally, he was on my side because this is getting out of hand.

“You really BET on us, sir?” he shook his head. Korosensei just shrugged nervously.

“I needed more Gelato funds,” he weeped, and went to pout in the corner. Serves him right for betting on a student.

“You should know better than to bet on Nagi-chan. You deserve to have your Gelato funds taken, even if it is by Professor Bitch,” he shook his head. I was about to agree until what he said sunk in. Why do I have be the one to be bullied all the time? At this point I feel like it’s a sport.

“Really Karma?” I lightly elbowed him, not hard enough to hurt him, but hard enough to get my point across. I glared at him and crossed my arms, as he stuck his tongue out at me. Normally, I would find that cute, but right now, I find it annoying.

“Yeah. Really brat? It’s an honor to have your funds taken by me,” she glared at Karma. Not what I meant, but okay.

“I wouldn’t say honor, but whatever helps you sleep at night,” he shrugged. She was about to yell at him again before Kayano interrupted.

“Anyway, even though I lost money, I’m super happy for you guys. Nagisa has wanted to tell you how he feels for so long. Honestly-” I cut her off by putting my hand over her mouth because I was red enough the way it was.

“I think that’s enough Kayano,” I said through gritted teeth. I don’t think the whole class really needs to know how long I’ve been pining. She shrugged and grabbed my hand, pulling it away from her mouth.

“Congrats guys!” Isogai smiled, as he congratulated us. Finally, someone with a normal response. What a prince. If only everyone was this nice. Maehara continued.

“Yeah congrats guys, but if I’m honest, I thought Nagisa liked Kayano. Afterall-” Isogai elbowed him, still smiling.

“Not the time,” he muttered. At least he gets it. I might have to thank him later.

“She’s like my sister,” I scratched the back of my neck and smiled nervously. I’ve heard that people thought I liked Kayano, but I didn’t think it was true.

“Yeah, we’re like best friends. It would never work,” she waved off the thought. I nodded back at her. Hearing that made Karma’s nose scrunch up.

“I disagree. I’m his best friend,” he crossed his arms, and glared at her. He seriously isn’t going to argue over this, is he?

“You’re his boyfriend. There’s a difference,” she glared at him. Oh my. They really are going to argue over this. I was about to spot this stupid and pointless argument, but Sugino stepped in for me.

“How about you’re both the people Nagisa cares about the most?” He tried to find a compromise. Bad idea. They both gave him a death glare which made him shrink back into his spot and murmur, “nevermind.” Poor Sugino. He really should’ve just let me handle it. Which was what I was about to do before Nakamura decided to butt in too.

“Shut up you too,” she rolled her eyes, “I’m sure there’s enough Nagisa to go around,” she smirked. Though it isn’t how I would have liked to handle it. It worked.

“I agree with Nakamura,” I smiled nervously at them. They both rolled their eyes. This gave time for Okuda to pipe up, to everyone’s surprise.

“I’m super happy for you guys too,” she smiled. I smiled back at her; Okuda was also always really nice to me.

“Took you long enough Karma. I thought we were going to kill Korosenei and graduate before you asked him out,” Terasaka smirked at him, and put his hands behind his head. Finally, someone is making fun of Karma and not me. I smirked at Karma. I was about to tease him, but Nakamura and Karma said something.

“That’s if you graduate,” they said at the same time, causing them to look at each other. They are two demons both spawned from the same devil, I swear. Itona looked up from the anti-sensei tank he was working on and said something.

“I got the impression you were already together; my apologies. I’m not very good with romantic relationships. Congratulations though,” that made Karma stop laughing and turn bright red. If I wasn’t as red, or maybe even more red, I would’ve laughed at Karma. Once again though, I was roped into the embarrassing statement. Nakamura, Terasaka, Kayano, and a few others, even Professor Bitch and Korosensei, burst into laughter. I’m glad they found it funny because I sure didn’t. Maehara tried to keep in his laughter, knowing he would probably get elbowed by Isogai again. It was to no avail because seconds later he burst into laughter.

“Um, Itona, some things you should just think and not say,” he smiled and scratched the back of his neck. At least he is trying to save the embarrassment of the situation. Itona looked at him with a confused look on his face.

“Everyone else was saying congratulations though,” he cocked his head to the side.

“I-,” he started, but he probably figured it was a lost cause because he just finished off with, “honestly nevermind.” Itona just shrugged and went back to working on his project. Once everyone had calmed down, Sugino said something.

“Anyway, I’m happy for you guys. Although, don’t let Karma rope you into something that will get you into too much trouble,” he chuckled. Although, he was probably half serious - which would be fair.

“Thanks Sugino, and don’t worry; I most likely will be the one keeping him out of trouble,” I teased and poked Karma’s side.

“And I’m a bully,” he rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

“No one said you were a bully; you’re just not the nicest sometimes,” I reasoned with a nervous laugh that matched my nervous smile. He really isn’t mad about this right? Am I going to lose my boyfriend already? Who knew relationships were so hard?

“You should have to scold Rio-chan too, in this case, she helps me most of the time,” he stuck his tongue out at us, and then pointed at Nakamura. She gasped dramatically.

“The betrayal! Don’t drag me into this!” Yeah we really don’t need to bring up how great of friends you are.

He strolled over to her and his arm around her.

“You are my partner in crime, Rio-chan. You are obligated to stick by me,” he smirked. I am going to ignore how jealous this makes me feel. They are just friends. Maybe they are really good friends, but still just friends.

“Fair. I guess if you go down I go down too,” she smirked back, and held her hand up for a high-five. Instead of a high-five he grabbed her hand and pulled her to where they bumped hips. What was that? I’m not jealous, just curious.

“Pfftt, what was that you two?” Terasaka asked, laughing. They both glared at him.

“Our best friend handshake, duh. Just because you’re not cool enough, or have the mental capacity to remember one doesn’t mean we can’t,” Nakamura sassed. Best friends huh?

“It’s okay, you shouldn’t make fun of the less fortunate, Rio-chan. Not everyone can be as cool as us,” he shrugged, faking pity. Wow, so he isn’t going to correct Nakamura about the ‘best friends’ line. I would’ve, but I’m more mature than that; I thought it instead.

“You guys are crazy,” Sugino rolled his eyes and looked over at me which caused them to stick their tongues out at him. So immature. The rest of our classmates congratulated us, and while they were doing that Karma walked back over to me.

“Anyway, as long as you two don’t let it interfere with the mission, you have my full support,” Karasuma nodded. That’s probably as good as we’ll get. Karma slung his arm around me. I’ll ignore the fact that I’m still slightly annoyed at him and RiO-cHAn.

“Don’t worry we’ll still be the ones to end the octopus,” he smirked smugly. I smiled and nodded at the rest of them.

"I am very happy for you as well," Ritsu piped up from my phone screen.

“Anyway, that’s pretty much all,” I shrugged at them. I was honestly kind of tired.

“Okay, Nagi-chan, I’ll walk you home,” he smiled at me. I nodded knowing that it would be useless fighting him because he would do it anyway.

If I would’ve known then what I know now, maybe I would’ve stayed longer because that was the last day Karma saw Kunugigaoka Junior High.
