Kimberly stared at the ceiling, her boredom mounting with every passing minute since she saw her mother off an hour ago.

Although her mother had wanted to stay longer, especially after finding out about her condition, she couldn't because she had only taken two days off from her job to check on her.

Kimberly was also relieved that her mother had left. As much as she loved her mother and had missed having her with her, she felt guilty about lying to her each time she saw her.

The thought of her best friend crossed her mind, and she remembered that Caroline had mentioned that she wouldn't be on duty this weekend. Perhaps they could hang out, grab a bite somewhere, and catch up.
