Disagreements

Two days had elapsed since their covert surveillance of Iris, and Peter and Micah were still simmering with residual tension from their argument. Peter, in his characteristic directness, couldn’t help but find the entire situation laughable. However, as time passed, Micah’s skepticism toward Iris had deepened, giving him an ever more critical eye.

Even though they shared the same tent, there was an unspoken rift between them, and yet they still dipped into the same bowl of soup.

“Hey, Micah,” Peter said, sighing with an air of resigned concern. “Are you holding up all right?”

Micah shot him a look of sheer disgust, savoring the opportunity to throw Peter’s question right back at him. “I’m perfectly fine. Perhaps you should reflect on your own well-being.”

Peter’s frustration simmered, bubbling just below the surface. “And what, pray tell, is that supposed to mean?”
