Chapter 193: Duty

*Kyung*

I stood at the edge of the pit, staring down at what used to be the grand ruins I had been tasked to guard. The once majestic structure now lay in ruins, nothing more than a vast pit filled with sand and rubble.

Behind me, I could hear the quiet rustling of wings folding and the soft murmur of voices. They were probably discussing what to do next, planning our next move. But for now, my focus was on the remnants of my past life.

"I'm sorry, Kyung," Major Kisara's voice broke through my thoughts. She had walked up to stand beside me, her gaze also on the destroyed ruins. "We couldn't save the ruins."

I shrugged, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. "It's fine, Major," I said, my voice steady. "To be honest, I always wished to be free from the duty of guardian when I was a kid."
