My world began to spin around me.
A human? Me?
That was impossible.
It didn't make any sense.
Papa was a Fae, mother was a Fae, Elvira was a Fae. We were all Faes.
We didn't have a single human descent in our family or any other magical creatures.
We were pure blooded Faes and it had been that way for centuries.
I too was a Fae except for the fact that I was sick.
I looked at my hands.
That was why I couldn't go out, That was why father treated me differently.
That was why my ears were different when I took too long from not taking my drugs. That was why I couldn't channel any power as a Fae.
Right?
Not because I was a human.
I shook my head. No, mother was just mad at me and that was why she had said what she said.
After all if I could lie then that meant mother too could lie right?
"Helen!" Papa barked.
The whole house began to shake.
Papa was extremely powerful, his emotions when heightened could affect the entire house and everyone around it.
Mother's face became grim and she looked away.
I wanted to hold her and got her to tell me that it wasn't true. That I wasn't a human and that she had only said it because she was upset.
And that I loved her. She was my mother.
And I was sorry for hurting her.
I saw her eyes welled up with tears.
"Aine is punishing us." Mother said. "I told you that she is punishing us. She is nowhere to be found. She has been nothing but trouble and look what she did!"
Then mother held on to Papa. "Please I can't do this anymore. This burden!"
Papa became cold and he snatched his silk clothes from her and mother fell down to the floor.
"I married you." He said. "Made you my wife. You knew what you were getting into. You were a replacement for the real Lady of this house and you are nothing special to me."
The real lady of this house?
What did he mean?
I didn't fully understand what he was saying.
"Then what is going to happen when she grows up? Will she stay in this house forever?" Mother asked.
I had always wondered that too.
What would happen to me? How long was i going to stay at home sick? When would I recover and when would I be allowed to go out?
I had always asked papa but then he had purposely always ignored the question.
"Angel is still a child. She is only eleven." He said. "When the time is right we will make the decision for her."
Then he turned to mother and he looked at her fire in his eyes.
"You will never ever speak of Angel again." He said. "She is our daughter. She is a Fae and that is that. The next time you make that mistake of speaking about her or hurting her the way you did. I will have your head Helen."
Then he turned and I quickly ran off before he caught me.
I raced out of the hall, tears streaming down my eyes and fled out of the house.
Outside was Elvira and she was smirking at me with her friends.
I did a quick U turn ready to flee.
"Angel wait!" She called out.
I stopped.
"Do you want to come to the gardens with me and my friends?" She asked. "I just want to escape the fights between mother and papa."
Why was she all of a sudden being nice to me.
All of my instincts, my whole body told me not to follow her.
Everything warned me against her.
But it was Elvira she was fourteen year old sister and she hated me, while I had begged to be loved by her and mother.
I found myself nodding to go with her.
"Good." She said extending her hand out to me and pulling me along.
I had no idea that I was walking right into my death trap.
