Chapter 07:Renting a House

Still in search of a house, Sarah wandered the streets, looking for any sign of a place to rent. Tired and desperate, she came across a worn-out old building with a faded sign that read, "Room for Rent." Without hesitation, she pushed open the creaky door and stepped inside.

The interior of the building was filled with a musty smell and dimly lit with old, flickering lightbulbs. Sarah felt a mixture of apprehension and hope as she made her way to the front desk, where an old woman with kind eyes sat.

"Excuse me," Sarah said, her voice filled with a mix of nerves and anticipation, "I saw your sign outside. Is the room still available?"

The old woman smiled warmly. "Yes, dear. The room is still available. May I ask your name?"

"Sarah," she replied, relief washing over her. She glanced around the reception area, noticing the peeling wallpaper and worn-out furniture. "This place seems... well-loved. How much is the rent?"

The old woman leaned forward, her gaze filled with compassion. "Sarah, my dear. I'm willing to give you the room for a very affordable price, considering your circumstances."

Sarah's heart skipped a beat. She couldn't believe her luck. She had been struggling to find a place within her limited budget. "Thank you so much. That would be amazing."

The old woman's eyes twinkled as she explained, "You see, dear, I used to live in this building with my husband. But after he passed away, it became too difficult for me to maintain the entire place. So, I decided to rent out the rooms to kind souls like you who are in need."

"I'm truly grateful," Sarah replied, the weight of her situation slowly lifting. "This feels like a safe haven amidst all the chaos in my life."

"I'm glad it makes you feel that way, my dear," the old woman said with a genuine smile. "Let me show you the room. It's not extravagant, but it's cozy and filled with love."

Sarah followed the old woman up a flight of stairs, the wood creaking beneath their feet. They reached the second floor, and the old woman opened the door to reveal a spacious and neat room.

As Sarah stepped into the room, she was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. Soft sunlight streamed through the sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow on the wooden furnishings. The walls were painted a soothing shade of pale blue, imparting a sense of tranquility to the space.

A plush bed sat against one wall, adorned with crisp white sheets and fluffy pillows, beckoning Sarah to sink into its inviting embrace. A cozy reading nook was tucked into a corner, complete with a comfortable armchair and a small bookshelf filled with a variety of literary treasures. Sarah could already imagine spending many peaceful afternoons lost in the pages of captivating stories.

Opposite the bed, a small desk was positioned near the window. It overlooked a picturesque view of a lush green garden, sparkling with vibrant flowers. The desk was neatly organized, with a shiny silver lamp, a notepad, and a pen, awaiting moments of creativity or late-night musings.

The aged wooden floor was covered with a soft, pastel-hued rug, adding a touch of comfort to the room. Sarah's eyes were drawn to a small vanity table tucked beside the door, adorned with a vintage mirror and an array of cosmetics. It was as if the room had been carefully curated to cater to her every need. The room was the exact opposite of what she hoped for, after seeing the worn out paints outside the room. More to her surprise her surprise, fresh flowers adorned a small table near the window, filling the space with a delicate fragrance.

"Oh, it's lovely," Sarah gasped

The old woman beamed at Sarah's reaction, her eyes filled with delight. "I'm glad you like it, dear. It may not be extravagant, but it's a place where you can find solace and peace."

Sarah nodded, her heart overflowing with gratitude. "It's more than I could have ever hoped for. Thank you so much, ma'am."

The old woman's eyes twinkled with warmth as she replied, "It's my pleasure, Sarah. I truly believe that kindness and compassion can make a world of difference. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help you settle in and make this place feel like home."

A wave of relief washed over Sarah as she realized she wasn't just renting a room, but she had found a caring companion in the old woman, just as she was about to settle down and do some cleaning her phone began to ring
