Chapter 36: Cane - Remorse…Sort Of

"You are such a tool," my Beta said as he stood.

Aspen's welcome had dried up like a plum in the sun, and we both still sat on her couch, watching the tea go cold.

I couldn't argue with him. He was right. I was a tool. A big one. And not sharp. Like a broken shovel or something.

Jesus.

I ran my hands through my hair and stifled the urge to scream in frustration.

"Why is it that I can't get this right?" I wondered aloud.

Evan stood, brushing crumbs off his lap and onto the tray she'd left behind.

"Because you're an Alpha. You think everything you do is right."

Evan is the only person I let talk to me that way. We'd been friends too long for me not to take his advice.

"You think you're the only one making sacrifices for the pack, and yet Aspen has done more for it than any other wolf who lives here, and she isn't even a wolf."

He was right.

"I can't do what I want," I said miserably.

Evan chuckled.
