"Your room is..." His hoarse voice came from behind, but he suddenly trailed off.
I wiped away my tears in a panic. When I turned around, he was staring at the notebook on the desk.
He knew I had discovered his secret.
The night was quiet. We stood there in silence for a long time.
For the past eight years, I had wanted an answer from him.
Didn't Garrett like me, even a little?
Not as a family, but as a woman.
Thinking of his cold look and the slap in my face, I kept telling myself the answer was no.
Now that I knew the real answer, I didn't dare to run to him like before.
"I'm sorry." My voice was hoarse and sad.
"Silly."
I felt terrible. There were many things I wanted to say, but I found that nothing was appropriate for the occasion.
So I changed the subject in a panic. "I'm looking for the medical kit. Where is it?"
Garrett looked at me for a while and replied, "In the old place." He also seemed to want to avoid the sensitive subject.
