A Heroic Sacrifice

I got up and looked out the window.

The police were on their way there. Police cars couldn't get in because it was an alley, but a large number of policemen were busy blocking off the exits.

I tried to calm myself down and began to observe the room.

I didn't think it was gonna be that simple. The brothers were fugitives. Since they had chosen to live there, they must have a backup plan. I could tell from the hole in the ceiling that Aiden was a man who liked to play it safe.

After checking, I found nothing in the room except the hole.

So I started guessing what Aiden was thinking. He cut a hole in the ceiling, which meant he hoped he could get to the fifth floor while surrounded.

Why would he want to go to the fifth floor? There was only one staircase there. No matter which floor he fled to, the police would be waiting for him on the landing of the fourth floor.
