A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

Thesra rifled through her wardrobe, searching for the perfect pair of leather pants to match her hair pin. Her grandmother had promised that they would finally venture into the city that day, and Thesra wanted to look her best. She'd been patient for the past seventeen years, never leaving the woods that they called home.

"Grandma!" She called out to her grandmother, who was in the kitchen tidying up their lunch of chicken and pottage.

"Grandma!" She called again, but there was no answer. She felt a bit afraid and confused. She heard the front door opening and the sound of horses and men outside. Jiji meowed in distress and clung to her leg.

Thesra's heart started pounding as she raced out of her room and into the living room. But she found no one there. "Grandma?!" She called out again, a rising note of panic in her voice.
