Chapter 39 : Keeping Secrets

I’d spent the majority of the day sleeping. I was feeling much better physically, but mentally, I was having a hard time. I was only able to relax when I was within eyesight of Tahir. I was sure that the anxiety would fade, but it was going to take a long time.

I felt bad that Tahir was stuck with me at his side, but he truly didn’t seem to mind it. He promised me that tomorrow he would go out in search of Popescu. The burn on his back was nearly indistinguishable already, so there was really no good reason to put it off anymore. The few days reprieve were nice, but we both knew it wouldn’t last for long.

We were sitting on the back porch enjoying some fresh air when the door opened and Riley stepped out nervously.

“I’m sorry to interrupt,” he said. “But your brother is here.”
