Chapter 40 : Round Two

Dex was hesitant to leave the house and I couldn’t blame him. There was a lot for him to process and he was understandably concerned. We sat on the back porch for an hour before Dex spoke again.

“You really do love him,” he said quietly.

“I do,” I confirmed. I knew that Dex was doing his best to wrap his head around everything, but it wasn’t easy. It hadn’t been easy for me either, and I’d seen a lot more proof.

“Alright.” He sighed and rubbed his temple. “Alright, so that’s it then.”

“What do you mean?” I asked in confusion.

Dex stood and looked at the door. “If you love him, then I’ll get used to him.” I jumped up and hugged him. Dex hugged me back and sighed dramatically. “I’ll just have to deal with the constant worry and sleepless nights.”

I laughed and smacked his arm. “You’re such a jerk.”

The door opened and took both of our attention. Tahir stepped out and looked at us, then smiled. “It’s getting late,” he started. “Would you like to stay for dinner?”
