Chapter 33 : Underground

*Beth’s POV*

Zed acted right away and pushed me to safety. But by saving me, he was crushed by the collapsing wall.

“No!” I screamed as I fell from the second floor. Thankfully, I bounced off a canopy, but then I landed in a tree in the courtyard.

“Shit!” I screamed.

The fall had twisted my ankle. I hoped it wasn’t broken. I struggled to climb down from the tree. I was groaning as I tried to step onto a huge tree branch. I looked back at the orphanage, only to find that the second-floor building had collapsed. No!! Zed was still in there!

Finally, I climbed down from the tree and dragged my injured foot toward the destruction. Crying, I dug through the rubble with my bare hands. My fingernails began bleeding, and snot was running down my face, but I had to rescue Zed. I couldn’t let him die! Not like this! No matter what he thought, Zed was good and pure. He wasn’t like his father. Zed deserved to live.
