Chapter 45 : Finding Amaya

*Amaya*

I sat back in my chair. I didn’t want to hear anymore. I’d heard enough. My brother was alive and safely back in Emerald Mountain. The bane of my existence was dead. I felt relieved. I felt a giant weight lifted from my shoulders. I was beside myself. I didn’t know what to do with my time now that everything had fallen into place.

I looked around the room, and everything felt right. For the first time in a long time, I was allowed to look to the future as it stretched out before me. I didn’t have to worry about the immediate future and no threats of war.

“Caine’s stupid war is over?” I finally asked. Everyone at the table laughed.

“Yes, the war is over. It barely began,” Wren replied as he reached for a piece of toast.

I didn’t know why that offended me. It came off condescending. I just lost six months of my life. My father died. There were so many casualties caused by the political unrest. I guess it didn’t matter to him, it wasn’t Shadowguard.
