Chapter 34 : Heart to Heart

Rain is pouring by the time Mia gets to her car. The only thing she can think about is how appropriate it feels for the moment.

There’s only one place that Mia wants to go right now, so she drives there on autopilot, not stopping until she pulls up to the door. She knocks on the door, waiting like an abandoned puppy until the door swings open, and one very tired-looking Louise looks back at her.

She’s wearing a matching, fuzzy pajama set with bright pink house slippers clad on her feet. Her hair is up in a set of foam curlers and Mia can see her many tattoos much more clearly.

“Oh. Hey, girl. You look miserable. What happened? I swear you were fine like three hours ago.” Louise steps to the side, letting Mia in.

Mia sniffles, walking into Louise’s house and standing in the middle of the floor, unsure of what to say.
