Chapter 38: Why Should We

Jane Sampson knew that James Black was referring to the call Peter Gingery had made to her a few days ago and the call James Black himself had made at noon today.

She glanced at James Black, whose expression was uncertain, and couldn't be sure whether he had returned so suddenly because she hadn't answered his call. In any case, Jane decided that later she would set his incoming calls to a very special ringtone, one that was immediately recognizable as his and also the loudest and most piercing kind of music.

Choosing between answering his call and dealing with him in person, Jane naturally chose the former.

"Speak." James Black emphasized his tone when requesting Jane to talk after not hearing her voice for a long time.
