While Vann is checking out the iron short sword and the small round wooden shield with metal along the edges and the center forming a cross shape, Mike walked up to him with his face showing surprise.
"That's a rather wierd weapon of choice you got there."
Vann turned to him and asked. "Why? Is there something wrong?"
Shaking his head, Mike shared his thoughts. "I was just surprised that's all. Don't misunderstand me. There's nothing wrong with your choice, it's just that it's quite rare for those with a fighter class to use shields. Most fighters would rather use heavy weapons or dual weapons, but that said there is still some people that uses shields as a fighter so really there is no problem. I know of a much weirder case of a person having a weapon that is considered unsuitable for their basic class by common sense than you."
Vann's interest was piqued and he couldn't help but ask. "Can you tell me who it is?"
Mike nodded as he said. "This person is actually very famous not just for her strength but also because of her unconventional battle style. She is a mage but her weapon is a sword, a rapier to be precise. That's all I can tell you right now because the angels have told us to not disclose any major information until you guys are out of the beginner towns. Until then, you should just focus on leveling up so you can explore more of our world."
Despite being curious on the identity of the woman, Vann didn't intend to linger on it too much since he can't do anything even if he found out her name. Just like Mike said, it would be far better for him to just level up first without minding anything else so he can head to a bigger stage.
And if he were to make a guess, this is also the intention behind the angel's decision of withheld any major information from the players until they can head outside of the beginner towns. As for the reason, Vann haven't a single clue as Maxima didn't really give out the major story behind the game. So it was up to the players to discover the story of the game themselves.
Vann was brought out of his thoughts when Mike clapped and said. "I almost forgot, you forgot to get some supplies to help you out. Since you have your weapon now, let's get your supplies."
Nodding in agreement, Vann followed Mike as they walked to a counter nearby where a man is right behind it and in front of the man is a few players lined up. Vann followed the line and waited patiently in the back.
Once it was his turn, the man gave Vann 20 copper coins, 3 pieces of bread and a canteen full of water. He stored them in his inventory before walking back to Mike.
Afterwards, Mike lead Vann to the entrance as he explained to Vann some basic informations that he needed to learn such as the currency of the game and how much certain items cost to get a good idea on the cost of items in the game.
In the end, Vann got to know that he is currently poor. Very poor. With his amount of money right, it was only enough to buy 4 pieces of bread, with each one costing 5 coins.
When he learned that, Vann knew that he needed to grind immediately or else he might use all of his coins and end up being broke. And with how the game is designed to be realistic, he needed a stable source of food and water to keep his character alive that's why he needed coins urgently.
After parting ways with Mike at the entrance, Vann looked at the sytem map and found it very dark because of all the unexplored places.
So he opted to look at the signs instead to look for the exit of the town. Along the way, Vann looked at his inventory to check the description of his items.

While he was checking his inventory, Vann remembered his unused APs. But even though he knew it would be better to use them now, he is still not sure that his way of using them is the correct way.
Even though Mike have told him that he is right, Vann didn't fully trust him at all unless he see a real proof. This is just how Vann is considering that he lived as an orphan since he was a child and having faced difficult times and some of them involved trusting someone he shouldn't have. So he knew all too well to not trust someone easily even if said someone is just an NPC.
In fact, with the real like behaviour of NPCs in the game, it wouldn't be strange at all if an NPC scammed a player as such things have occured in the past in some games with very advanced NPCs.
So he put off using his remaining APs for now and intends to bear through the trouble of being weaker than the average player just to be safe.
As he closed his inventory, Vann reached the exit of the town. The town is surrounded by stone walls 3 meters in height and the exit is also surrounded by guards wearing iron armors with weapons in hand.
Taking a quick glance at them, Vann followed the line of players heading outside the town and in less than a minute he got to the fields right outside the town.
Currently, the fields is full of players grinding monsters. Despite the monsters spawning quite frequently, the amount is still not enough for the hundreds of players in the area.
The monsters in the field looked just like a normal dog. They are considered as neutral monsters, the kind of monsters that will only attack when it was disturbed.
Coincidentally, a dog spawned near Vann. Vann used Inspect (1), the skill that is given to every player before they even got their class, on it to see its stats before fighting it.
