When Lunaira opened her eyes, the first thing that caught her attention was how warm she was. Her vision was nothing but dull hues of bleary grays while she heard crackles and pops faintly in front of her.
The next thing she took note of was pain. Everything hurt, so she didn’t bother trying to move or shift. Not that she really could with the layers of blankets that piled over her. A smokey breeze brushed against her, signaling that she was outside.
“You’re finally awake.”
Her eyes fluttered, relieved to see the bright stars that twinkled under the indigo night sky. Soft fingers caressed her head, soothing the aches slightly. Lunaira took a deep breath while she nudged into them.
She still couldn’t twist around to see anything that wasn’t ahead of her, however, she did hear the shuffle of movement. A familiar, welcoming presence right beside her.
“You overdid it this time, Lu. We almost lost you.”
