In the rain

>>Sorin

That night, for some reason I couldn't sleep.

There was something bothering me. Something unknown. It was as if I was scared but I had no idea what I was so scared of.

After spending hours trying to fall asleep I just gave up. I was tired and I most definitely wanted to sleep but for some reason I just couldn't.

I stood up, took a deep breath and decided to go for a walk.

I didn't want to cause any trouble or anything, so I didn't go outside. I roamed the silent dimly lit hallways of the palace slowly, occasionally passing by a guard who was on night duty.

After walking in the corridors for a while I came across the stairs that led up, I paused and stared at the clean, pretty white steps when suddenly I got a bad headache.

Immediately after an image flashed across my mind, the same steps I was staring at were destroyed, the white marble had dirty blood dripping down it as rubble surrounded it.

I gasped as I stood still. The hallucination lasted only for a second but it made my whole body stiff.

What was that?

It was oddly familiar…

I blinked as I looked at the stairs again. They were perfectly fine, clean and pretty as they always are.

I took a deep breath and then, in the end, decided to go upstairs on the roof.

I guess I just wanted some fresh air and the roof of the palace is the best place to get those lovely pleasant gusts of the wind.

I walked to the railing of the huge open terrace and quietly stood there with my eyes closed as I let the gentle air caress me.

It felt nice.

I was expecting to see some stars but the night sky view was blocked by the dark clouds.

Oh well.

I love the cool breeze.

I stood there for a while, my mind seemed to calm down a little as I focused on not thinking about anything when suddenly without any thunder or rumbling, it started to rain.

I opened my eyes when a few droplets hit my face.

Oh no!

Then it suddenly began to pour.

Oh shit!

I was a little disappointed because I wanted to stay there longer but I guess it was better to leave or else I'd be completely soaked.

Just as I turned to run towards the door that was quite far from me, something covered my head. I was ready to sprint when the shade that blocked the rain came over my head and made me pause in my stance.

It was a big black wing. Large enough to act like an umbrella.

I looked to my side and noticed Kaan standing there with his other wing covering his head, a slight smile plastered on his face.

"Kaan?" I was surprised to see him.

"I thought I could help here." He seemed very pleased.

"Ah…" I smiled unconsciously and turned to look outwards again, "Thank you…" It had gotten windier, "Why are you awake?" I asked as I looked at the garden in the distance, "It's late."

"I could ask you the same thing." He said, "But if I have to answer, it's just that I got a feeling that I should go out for a flight. It had been a long time after all."

"Oh?" I looked at him, "You were flying?" He nodded, "Must be fun…" I said feeling a little grumpy, "I'm envious."

"..." Kaan then thought about something and then sighed, "It seems I was right." He said and I looked at him with a confused expression.

"About what?" I asked

"About you not knowing what kind of demon blood you have in you."

!!!

I was a little shocked at his words but then I relaxed and sighed, "I knew you found out I'm half demon when you tasted my blood."

He chuckled, "That's not the only thing I found out." He smirked.

"What else is there?" I narrowed my eyes at him, "Do you know what kind my demon side is?"

"I have a hunch." He looked at a distance with a sly smile, "But that's not what I was talking about."

"Then?" Why is he being all mysterious? "What is it?"

"It's something you didn't realize because you suppress your demon side." His eyes shone when he looked at me.

"Then tell me!" I stared at him but he only chuckled in response, "Kaan!" The rain got heavier while we stood there.

"Let me take you back to your room," He said, "The storm will get heavier."

I glared at him, "You're avoiding the question!" He smirked.

"I will answer you," He showed me his palm, "But let's get out of the rain first."

I stared at his hand, "Fine," And then placed mine on his. He smiled and chanted a spell that created a temporary barrier over his head. He then pulled me closer to him all of the sudden.

It startled me, I crashed into his chest and he grabbed my waist, "K-kaan?" He lifted me up in his arms and I looked at him with wide confused eyes.

"You were envious of me flying, right?" He looked at the sky, "It'd take you out for a proper flight but this time it can only be till your room."

"Huh?"

"The weather is bad after all." He smiled, making my heart skip a beat. Then he flapped his wings out wide and jumped off the terrace making my heart drop in the pit of my stomach.

Everything happened so fast I didn't react enough to scream but I wrapped my arms around Kaan's neck and held onto him tightly, momentarily closing my eyes.

The wind was strong but I didn't feel any rain on me, most likely because of the magic barrier he set up, and that made me open my eyes again.

Woah!

My eyes went wide and a smile spread across my face.

We were flying!

But there was a sad part in that, it was very short lived because of the rain and it didn't take long for us to reach my room's balcony where Kaan dropped me off.

"I'll take you out for a proper flight on a pleasant night." He said just as he put me down.

"..." I looked back at him and nodded. He gave me a smile back.

What's wrong with me?! I feel a little weird when he smiles at me like that!

"You're going to the brothel tomorrow right?" He asked and I nodded, "I have a hunch you'll find an answer there." I looked at him suspiciously, "And when you do find it, it'll ultimately lead to another answer." He jumped at the balcony railing, "But of course there is a chance you might not get it. So I'll explain it later when the time comes." He flapped his wings and jumped in the air again, "Till then," He waved his hand at me once, "Good night Your Majesty."

I looked at him in awe while he flew off towards the balcony of his room while I was left with unanswered things. I wanted to say something to him but at the same time I thought they might be futile so I closed my mouth and stepped backward into the room while still looking at the rain.

What's with me? I feel funny…

I sighed and looked at the rain again from the covered part of the balcony.

It's pretty…

I smiled softly and all of the sudden, I started feeling sleepy.

I closed the window as I stepped inside the room and went to bed feeling tired but at the same time there was something bothering me.

Is it just me? I mean, I know it can't be just me. Kaan's one of the leads of the novel. Of Course he's handsome and attractive, so it's normal to find him attractive! Or could it be because I'm half demon?

I bit my lower lip feeling a little giddy so I grabbed a pillow and hugged it tightly as I buried my face in it.

I wonder,

What did Kaan find out about me that even I don't know?

Ah~

There's just so much I'm curious about!!
