Chapter Forty-Eight

#Chapter Forty-Eight

Serene stood in front of the tombstone and bent down to place a flower on top of it. It read "Frank DeHaven" and as she remembered him, tears slid down her cheek. Although Frank made her life tough, he was always kind to her and she loved him for that. She removed more flowers from her bouquet and decorated the corners of his tombstone with it, careful to make sure it looked great, but it turned out looking normal instead.

Frank had been executed many years ago for homosexuality, and his nephew lost his life along with him. Her heart ached for them, because they were treated so terribly for simply loving each other. She wished that one day the world would be kinder to people like them. And she was certain that day was coming.

Sighing deeply, she stepped away from Frank's grave. As she walked through the cemetery, she thought about how his grave was also here. She told herself that she could visit him again, talk to him again, and remember the days she used to have with him. The fighting, the screaming, the rough, hate sex, and later, the sacrifice and commitment. She continued walking.

But she did not visit Lachlan's grave.
