Chapter Twenty: An Incorrigible Gossip

Esmeray watched in despair as people trooped in and out of the house. They were not here to empathize with her, they were here to mock her. She looked at her husband and mate who sat wretchedly in a corner. Creon had aged twenty years in just three days. He looked miserable; like he had seen a ghost.

"My lady," Adelaide greeted as she entered the house.

"My Lord," she greeted Lord Creon.

The couple acknowledged her with a mere raising of the head. She may be the Alpha',s best friend but she was not that important in the scheme of things.

"I heard the news, I could not but come," Adelaide said after a while.

"Thank you," even as Esmeray uttered the words she wanted to take them back immediately. Why did she have to thank these people when she had just possibly lost her daughter forever?
