"Are you free tomorrow? I want to go back to my mother's house with you. I have been married for more than half a year, and I haven't gone back once,"
Tang Li asked as she finished her fish soup and looked at Yi Minghuan.
"I'm free," Yi Minghuan agreed. He thought it was a good idea to accompany his wife back to her family's home.
After considering it, he added, "I'll bring your household registration book here tomorrow, and we can change your household registration and apply for a marriage certificate."
Once they had their marriage certificate, they could move her household registration, and they would be able to set up their own household and live separately.
This would free them from the main house's involvement in matters like food distribution, making their lives much easier.
"Sure, that sounds good," Tang Li replied without objections. Getting the certificate, moving her registration, and letting Yi Minghuan be the head of the household put her at ease.
When the water in the cauldron began to boil, Yi Minghuan poured corn paste into it.
Meanwhile, Tang Li surreptitiously added some spiritual water to the fish soup pot while Lin Hongrui wasn't looking. Then she served the fish soup.
After they finished making their meal, Tang Li mixed some spinach salad, took some for herself, and carried the fish soup and spinach to their room. Yi Minghuan was in charge of serving the steamed buns and corn porridge.
"Let's call Dad to join us for the fish soup. If you hand it to him in a bowl, I bet it won't make it to his mouth," Tang Li said, arranging the chopsticks and pulling out a small stool to sit down, directing her words at Yi Minghuan.
"Sure," Yi Minghuan agreed. "You go ahead and eat. I'll call him."
Tang Li didn't hesitate; she scooped herself a small bowl of fish soup and picked up a steamed bun to begin eating.
The room was cramped, and they needed to clear the space for Father Lin when he joined them for dinner later. So, she ate quickly.
As she ate, Tang Li kept an ear out for sounds outside. She faintly heard Yi Wanjing swearing and urging Su Cheng to serve the meal quickly.
Squinting her eyes, Tang Li couldn't help but feel annoyed by Yi Wanjing's behavior. He seemed to share the same negative qualities as Gu Xiulan, full of malicious intentions and foul language.
It became apparent that they needed to move out of this place as soon as possible to enjoy peace and quiet. She didn't want to deal with the stress of always guarding against thieves and various other inconveniences.
After a while, Yi Minghuan returned alone, his handsome face showing signs of fatigue and frustration and Tang Li's heart ached for him.
"Did Father not come to eat?" Tang Li inquired, putting down her chopsticks.
She could tell something had happened, so she stood up and reached out to grasp his arm in concern.
She tried to comfort him, saying, "Father is gentle and afraid of causing trouble with the evil mother-in-law and your brother. After we finish eating, take some fish soup to him and watch him drink it."
"Don't be too upset. Your father has been oppressed his whole life, and his fear of the wicked mother-in-law runs deep. He never thought of resisting her. Give him some time."
"Thank you," Yi Minghuan expressed his gratitude earnestly for her comfort.
In fact, he told himself not to care, but every time he finished talking with his father, the feeling of powerlessness and oppression always weighed on his heart like a big stone, making him unable to breathe.
He still held some expectations for his father, considering that he cared for him and provided him with warmth. His father had enabled him to leave in the first place, and he appreciated that.
It was a deep source of gratitude for him.
"You don't need to be so polite. We're husband and wife; there's no need for thanks between us," Tang Li replied with a warm smile. She pulled him to sit down and handed him a pair of chopsticks.
"Here, eat the fish while it's hot. It's delicious.".....
