POWER TRIP
SO, THE story went like this.
Apparently, the kid named Phoebe Kang had been discreetly bullying Neoma by forcing their classmates to ostracize Neoma.
Since Phoebe Kang's father was the vice chairman of a medium-sized company and had politicians for in-laws, the foolish kid thought her family was powerful enough to cover up her bullying.
Which was somehow true.
Most of the students in the Moonflower Middle School came from the middle to upper middle class.
Only a few like Phoebe Kang came from a wealthy family.
Hence, the power trip.
For some reason, Phoebe Kang thought Neoma was an easy target because Neoma was raised by a single mother.
Nobody knew that Neoma was the daughter of a chaebol, after all.
Neoma kept her background a secret and decided to just ignore Phoebe Kang since the kid wasn't worth her time.
But that ended when Phoebe Kang bullied a hoobae (underclassman) close to Neoma.
Fortunately, the hoobae in question had the courage to stand up for Neoma and speak his truth after getting summoned to the faculty room.
"Neoma noona only protected me because Phoebe sunbae and her friends kept throwing soccer balls at me after they dragged me behind the gym," Greko Lee, Neoma's close hoobae, said firmly. "Neoma noona blocked the soccer ball with her arm, so the ball bounced back in Phoebe sunbae's direction. It wasn't Neoma noona's fault that Phoebe sunbae failed to avoid the ball and got hit with it in the face."
Nikolai was relieved to hear that Neoma only got into a fight to protect a hoobae.
Even Mona looked relieved to know that she didn't raise a delinquent.
[Not that we ever doubted Neoma.]
"My friend, Aurora Kim, has evidence," Greko said, catching Nikolai and Mona's attention. "Aurora saw Phoebe sunbae and her friends bullying me, so she secretly recorded the entire thing. It's clear in the video that Neoma noona only protected me. Plus, it was Phoebe sunbae's friends who pulled Neoma noona's hair first! They even scratched Neoma noona's pretty face!"
Nikolai appreciated the fact that the Greko kid was clearing Neoma's name, but he didn't like the fact that the boy called his daughter pretty.
[Does he fancy my precious daughter? How dare he!]
"It wasn't even a fair fight!" Greko Lee continued with his passionate retelling of what happened. "Phoebe sunbae had four of her friends attack Neoma noona! Luckily, Neoma noona still won the fight. Neoma noona is the best."
After his speech, Greko Lee played the video in his phone.
It was the evidence that everything the boy had just said was the truth.
The video captured the moment Greko Lee was being attacked by the soccer balls Phoebe Kang and her friends threw, the moment Neoma arrived to protect the boy, and the moment Phoebe Kang's friends attacked Neoma all at the same time.
Nikolai clenched his hands tight in an effort to keep himself calm. But that wasn't enough to keep his mouth shut. "How dare you gang up on my precious daughter then frame her as the bully when she's actually the victim?"
Phoebe Kang and her father both flinched and avoided Nikolai's gaze.
[They were so good at running their mouths earlier. But now that the truth was exposed with a video to back it up, they can't say anything anymore.]
No.
Phoebe Kang and her father couldn't say anything– probably because of Nikolai's status as a chaebol.
[That is even more upsetting.]
"I bet if I wasn't here, you'd still insist that my daughter grew up as a delinquent for having an absent father," Nikolai said bitterly, then he looked at the teachers with a disappointed look on his face. "And I have to say I'm really disappointed in you, teachers. You allowed an angry parent to yell and spout hurtful words at your student without doing anything."
It was probably because of Mr. Kang's position as the vice-chairman of a medium-sized company.
And it was pretty normal for teachers to cower in front of a powerful parent.
[Sadly, it's a common occurrence in private schools like this.]
