His steps were heavy yet determined as he continued to walk through the hot desert sand. Because of the dungeon, there hadn't been any monsters in the area close to them. Even with Velios completely unconscious and in a kind of battery save mode, his mana didn't seem to go away as his skin was far too hot for a normal person. If Vadh wasn't an undead intelligent monster, he would have suffered from the burns far worse. He could certainly die if any more mana was still left. But it's not like it felt pleasant to die in any way. If anyone would ask about him carrying and helping a human to safety, he most likely would not answer because he couldn't. He had no reason to really help him in any way. Velios was strong enough to defend himself if any trouble arrived and it wouldn't be a problem for Velios to stay close as Velios would be protected from monsters by the natural dungeon barrier and Vadh could be called back at any time as long as Velios had the mana. He couldn't even explain it himself after contemplating on why he was carrying him through the desert.
Multiple hours had passed as they were approaching a city for the first time. Vadh was still carrying Velios on his back, holding his hands under his thighs as he continued with awfully slow and painful steps. There were multiple people who went in and out of the city who saw the two of them. Talk about the two of them quickly began to serge around as they got closer and closer to the gate. Hearing all of the talking, the guards who supervised passage saw the two of them. One very pale looking guy with only a few small injuries carried another guy who looked unconscious, tall with long black hair and big wounds over the body. The talking continued between the adventurers as the guards were quick to rush over. "Hey, you guys! Are you okay? Is the man your carrying hurt?" Vadh was completely done for but he still managed to give a look, looking down on them. "See for yourselves, you lowly bastards." Vadh also passed out just after saying that sentence, falling face first into the sand with Velios landing on his back and then bouncing off into the sand.
The guards were seen carrying both of them into the city through the gate. The adventurers were standing there in their armor with their unique equipment and weapons at their disposal. "You think more beginners went out and got their ass handed to them?" Some of them even laughed. "What did they think? Going out into the desert as a duo with not a single piece of equipment? They should be glad that they were even alive." They stopped laughing as the guards passed but remused when they had entered the city. "I agree. Beginners these days. They thought they were something. I guess that is what they deserve." The adventurers kept mocking them even minutes after they first were spotted. Laughing at their stupidity. All of them knew how unforgiving the dessert could be. It had a much higher death rate than the forest Velios started in. The least powerful monster still took a party of at least six to defeat. People in the desert had only survived by forming different groups or parties to take down even a few monsters and grow stronger. The most powerful adventurers in the city were the people who broke the barrier and hold the current city record of five. None of them knew, however, how big their stupidity was having mocked the exact same person who killed a black scorpion solo.
Lights shimmered into the room he was in. Velios could smell the dryness and sand in the air as his eyes slowly opened. He did not know where he was but something similar had happened before so he knew that he was back in the city but he had no recollection of what had happened since he threw that one punch that completely blew the head off Osiris. Since that happened he guessed that he must have fallen unconscious but he was still unsure of what had happened. Did I win the fight? Did someone find me? No, the dungeon would probably have collapsed. Did someone carry me here? Ughh, there's so many possibilities. Wait, wasn't that bastard there? What was he even doing there? I don't remember summoning him. Velios couldn't stop thinking about the different possibilities as he layed in the bed, covered in bandages. The door opened and one of the guards that had carried him into the city walked into the room. "Oh, I see that you have woken up now. Are you feeling any better? I won't deny that you probably have had a pretty tough time. Take all the rest that you need. This city's guild leader wants to talk to you so I suggest you head there. I doubt it's anything bad. He is a nice and caring person and will probably only talk to you to make sure that you're okay." Velios stared him dead in the eye with a furious look in his eyes, having not cared about what the guard said.
"Did you see a monster with me?" The guard got scared by the look and confused by the question. "What do you mean by monster? The only person with you was your party member." Velios got confused by the answer as it was not the answer he seeked. "I asked a question, did a humanoid monster with white hair and the most wicked and evil face carry me into the city and if so, where is he now?" The question shocked the guard who obviously knew who he was talking about but was shocked at the description. "W-We do not know where he went. It's true that he was carrying your wounded body into the city. Although he did pass out, when he found himself being carried by my friend, he sliced off four of his fingers before running away into the city on his own. We don't know where he went and we are still looking for him. Rest assured, he was probably just confused after waking up in a stranger's arms. My friend is actually fine thanks to some of the medicine we recently acquired. His fingers should be all functioning in only a few hours from now." The guard knew that Velios was angry for the last thing he said and in trying to calm him down, it only got worse. Velios rose up from his bed, standing just beside it looking straight into the eyes of the guard, scaring him senseless. The guard didn't know what happened, he felt like the gravity had increased tenfold and the young man in front of him was ready to kill him with the most murderous intent he had ever seen.
Vadh was still running away, not from the guards, but from Velios. Shit! Shit! Oh why did I do that. My instincts got the better of me. Those weak and lowly humans shouldn't try to act friendly and helpful in the first place. Ohh, he's going to kill me so many times. I'm done for. No matter what Vadh would proceed to do, as soon as Velios would get even a hint of where he was, he knew that he would die a painful death only to get summoned once again in a cycle he didn't know how long would last. He knew that death was inevitable and that no amount of words would sway his decision. All he could do was to either accept his punishment, beg for forgiveness or run away as fast as possible. His choice of how he would do things was the exact order of the things stated, but in reverse. At the core of it all, he was a monster that hated humans but the single thing he hated more was to get killed by one of them repeatedly. He had no choice but to continue to disobey his masters and disregard the rules that Velios had set. Even with Velios gravely injured from the battle, with the weakened state that Vadh was in, he would stand no chance and with the addition of Velios learning to utilize mana and magic, he just kept on advancing further and further ahead of him while Vadh would continue to have the gap change between them if things continued like this.
