My stomach immediately sank as I heard Owen’s words. Things were too quiet while I was in Greece. I should’ve known something bad was about to happen.
“When was this?” I asked, struggling to decide if I’d handle this in front of Rosie or not. We were dealing with a different side of our relationship now, and I hadn’t yet decided how much I’d share with her.
I knew that, for the sake of our marriage, I should share it all with her. But I couldn’t do that. Not yet anyway. I hoped she could understand that much.
“Just earlier today. You were already on your way here, so we decided to wait until you landed,” Owen explained as he got our luggage into the trunk and walked to the driver’s seat.
I opened the back door for Rosie and slid in beside her on the back seat. I could still see Owen’s eyes through the rearview mirror, and I could tell that he was also concerned by the way his brows were creased.
For a moment, I was afraid to ask about Seth’s condition.
